Swiss watchmaker Blancpain, in association with the Historical Diving Society Hans Hass Award Committee, has announced that Chinese Professor Cui Weicheng, Research Professor and Dean of the Hadal Science And Technology Center of the Shanghai Ocean University individually, and the Chinese State Oceanic Administration collectively, have won the 2014 Hans Hass Award.

To commemorate the occasion they have produced four special watches, one a unique piece. The watches are variously equipped with a tourbillon, a perpetual calendar, an equation of time as well as sunrise and sunset times for the city of Moscow.

July 4th 1914, tensions ran high. Archduke Franz Ferdinand had been assassinated in Sarajevo just a few days earlier. It was to be the catalyst to the greatest war the world has ever known. But on July 4th at what turned out to be the last French Grand Prix before the Great War, at a time when owning a car, let alone having the means to be able to race one was reserved for the wealthy, a relatively unknown German driver, machinist Christian Lautenschlager, entered the race.
