It has already been reported on Watchuseek’s German Watches Forum that GUINAND Uhren will be back very soon. Italo Fontana, founder of Italian brand U-Boat, has unveiled Capsule at Baselworld, inspired directly by the first undersea exploration modules.
Fascinated by depth gauges made in the early 1930s, Italo designed this watch with their characteristic features in mind, from the rounded shape to the porthole windows with water pressure resistant glass to ensure that the people inside the cabin survived the dive. These spherical portholes made from strong glass were clamped to the outside surface of the capsule using a system of levers to ensure water resistance.
2015 marks the 130th anniversary of SAINT HONORE, and to celebrate the occasion the Paris based brand has brought out a limited series of watches that encapsulate the brand's history.
Music has always inspired family-owned Raymond Weil for mould-breaking timepieces. The latest offering from the music-loving watchmaker celebrates the one-and-only Gibson guitar, an icon of modern music played by the greatest rock, jazz and blues musicians, from Eric Clapton to U2's The Edge, from Jimi Hendrix to BB King.
A visit to the Patek Philippe stand at Baselworld is always a must. In 1959, Patek Philippe’s patented Travel Time mechanism became something of a legend, and in 1996 it attained a new level of perfection. When the local time hand is moved forwards or backwards in one-hour increments, an isolator uncouples the time-zone mechanism from the main movement.
Jörg Schauer spoke to the Watchuseek team about development of Durowe movement, watch collection, and growth of Stowa. Jörg was very open about the struggle for releasing watches with Durowe movment. His issue is space for additional watchmakers as well as development time required. He said that few of his watchmakers are working through evenings to develop the Durowe movement. He said he is confident that Durowe movement watch will happen in 2015. Until then Testaf - or what he referred to as Airman 2.0 remains his focus.
Tutima M2 was the highlight of the 2015 collection. It now has the Valjoux 7750 base movement. It is 46mm but it wears like 42mm due to the height. The depth rating is 300 meters. The titanium case contains an anti-magnetic cage.
It being the week of Baselworld, Baselworld stories are running hot and heavy, and there is still plenty more to come. Daily my inbox overfloweth with new watches and new brands urgently requesting coverage. And cover them we will, even when the vastly expensive exhibition stands have been dismantled for another year.
