Ah, the perils of claiming a British first, never mind a world first when it comes to watchmaking. During last weeks’ announcement of the new Bremont Wright Flyer, the BWC/01 movement was hailed as the first movement created in-house by the British brand, whereas more accurately it was developed in partnership with La Joux-Perret in Switzerland. Further to Timeless Luxury Watches well informed article on the new movement, what is true is that the BWC/01 has been used for the first time in the Bremont Wright Flyer.

Frederique Constant is steadily producing models in tribute to the much loved vintage British sports car Austin Healey, now revived and part of the mighty Chinese Nanjing Automobile Corporation. The new range comprises three watches powered by the FC-350 Automatic GMT movement, and offering 38-hour power reserve. They feature the hours, minutes, seconds, date and GMT 24H functions.
British watchmakers Bremont have released a tribute watch to one of America’s crowning achievements; the first manned flight by the Wright Brothers. On Dec. 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, N.C., Orville and Wilbur Wright realised humankind's long sought dream to fly. Their engine-powered flying machine broke free of gravity and completed four short flights. The brothers, who owned a bicycle factory in Dayton, Ohio, had wanted a light aircraft, so they designed the wings of their flying machine with ribs and spars in thin slats of wood with a skin of muslin, which kept the weight to about 341 kilograms with the pilot.
A truly fascinating auction is coming up in September in Boston MA, where some historic presidential possessions of Raleigh DeGeer Amyx are to be auctioned by RR Auctions. The star of the show is likely to be the gold Rolex given to President Dwight D. Eisenhower for his heroic role in the planning of the D-Day invasion. It's being auctioned for the first time in its history – valued at an estimated $1 million. The wristwatch is among items from the Raleigh DeGeer Amyx collection that will be offered during a live auction event to be held later this year by Boston, MA-based auction house RR Auction.
