IWC has pulled out all the stops to introduce the new distinctly feminine Portofino mid-size collection, with a lavish campaign featuring a cavalcade of Hollywood stars adding glamour and star status to the brand.
World renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh took an A list team of actors and actresses including Cate Blanchett, Christoph Waltz, Ewan McGregor and Adriana Lima to an idyllic fishing village on the Ligurian coast of Italy from where Portofino takes its name. Here he created a series of classic images to promote the new collection comprising 17 new references in a 37mm case designed to have plenty of appeal for women. Some 21,000 images were taken during a busy three day shoot, and some of these were showcased at the Zurich Film Festival. Star power worked, because the IWC Portofino Midsize Collection has seen its pictures splashed across several of the world’s leading newspapers. The photographic exhibition will also be featured in Hong Kong, London, Miami, and finally Dubai.
The new Portofino Midsize collection, which steps away from its formerly imposing and masculine 46mm sized casing, comes in a variety of case materials, different dials and several lively strap colours. There are models with diamond settings too as this is currently the on trend look in ladies watches.
Perhaps the star of IWC’s Portofino Midsize collection is a moonphase complication using the Calibre 35800 self-winding movement with a 42-hour power reserve. The 37mm red-gold case version is set with 90 diamonds, with a further 84 diamonds on the black lacquer dial. Other red-gold models feature 66 diamonds set on the case and 12 on a black or white mother-of-pearl dial. For simpler tastes there is an ever popular stainless-steel version with the same diamond setting. The watches are mounted on either Santoni alligator leather straps or Italian style Milanese bracelets.
At the heart of the collection are ten references with 37mm cases. They run on the IWC self-winding Calibre 35111, again with a 42-hour power reserve. In stainless steel or 18-carat red gold with diamonds, they come on alligator leather straps in colours including black, grey, red, light brown, dark brown, orange and lilac. There are also three Portofino Automatic models with 40mm cases in 18-carat red or white gold set with 72 diamonds, slate or silver-plated dials and black or dark brown alligator leather straps.
