Master Swiss watchmaker Christophe Claret has thrown his horological hat into the ring for Only Watch 2015 with a one-of-a-kind creation, the Hope & Peace Watch. It comes in white gold and anthracite gray with a grade 5 PVD titanium case measuring 44mm.
The movement is a self-winding Caliber AVE15, with twin barrels and a 72-hour power reserve. This is the same caliber that was developed for the Aventicum timepiece, unveiled earlier in the year.
The emerald is set dead center in the dial center and features a mirascope parabolic mirrors in a reflective surface that create the illusion that the emerald is actually twice its size, with the green color symbolizing hope. The optical illusion gives the impression that the stone is practically jumping out of the watch.
The hours and minutes hands are placed on the inner bezel ring, shaped like bells and made from anti-corrosive aluminum to make them lighter.
The center of the oscillating weight appearing through the back of the watch features Alfred Nobel with a green agate rim revealing the movement. It also bears the name of the 129 laureates who have received the Nobel Peace Prize since its creation, listed clockwise in chronological order with the most recent appearing at 6 o’clock.
The two rows of names furthest from the center remain in a fixed position, while the rows closest to the center turn in step with the oscillating weight. The watch comes on a black alligator leather strap, with black stitching. The Hope & Peace watch will be up for auction along with all the other Only Watch entries on November 7 in Geneva.
