Arcadia

Arcadia Watches launches their very first timepiece on Kickstarter. Their new watch features proprietary case coating “DuraPhene” which offers superior strength and adherence. The result, a resilient timepiece built to last through the decades.

Arcadia Watches are not new to the industry. In a previous life, they bought, refurbished and resold classic watches from brands such as Bulova, Omega and Rolex. It was only a matter of time before they took all they had learned and applied it to their own creations.

Arcadia’s goal was to create a watch brand which would deliver accurate, simple, easy to read dials. Functionality would be at the heart of their design DNA, keeping in mind style, utility, and legibility. The result is a timepiece rugged enough for the outdoorsman, with just the right amount of sophistication to be teamed with a suit.

After almost two years in development, the one-of-a-kind watch is finally up on Kickstarter. The G1.0 model features a 40mm stainless steel case with thin sidewalls, serving to widen the dial’s appearance. The case is coated with DuraPhene entirely, inside and out.

DuraPhene is derived from Graphene, an allotrope of carbon, produced by a specialized American coating firm. Graphene is 200 times stronger than steel and even harder than diamond. Its properties include enhanced corrosion resistance and is anti-microbial. The Nobel Prize-winning material fuses to the case structure, safeguarding it. Due to its superior capabilities, the material comes with a hefty price tag, $100 per gram.

The G1.1 dial follows Arcadia’s high legibility criteria. They want users to be able to tell the time at a glance. The design is simple. Large military style numerals grace the dial, as well as bold precision cut hands and large, round lumen filled indicators located at 3, 6, 9 with a stylistic delta at 12 o’clock. The compass is discreetly displayed on the chapter ring, there to help you calculate general direction on your escapades. A hardened mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating sits on top.

The watch is driven by a precise quartz Miyota 2035 movement by Citizen. It’s robust and reliable with an accuracy of +/- 20 seconds per month and is powered to run for three years on a single off the shelf battery.

For Arcadia Watches, high-quality components with a track record of excellent reliability are essential.

The watch comes on a strap made of genuine leather which is carbon fiber pattern embossed, continuing with the carbon theme. “Arcadia” is also embossed on the inside of the strap and laser etched onto the clasp.

The design is inspired by tours with geologists, the ascent of Mount Rainer, fly fishing in the Yellowstone Thorofare, hiking the Wind River Mountains and canoeing the Boundary Waters of Canada. The G1.0 model is a well-designed minimalist classy watch which can endure rigorous activities thanks to DuraPhene providing ultimate case protection.
