the case size isn't so bad (42mm is manageable by most) but lug-to-lug is killer--52 mm.that's a bit much. 48 mm would've been fine for 42 mm case size.
I recently checked the website again to verify that lug length.
They just updated the case specs, the lug-to-lug width of this watch is 50mm, it's a standard Combat Sub case just like all the other models in the line.
Saw it this morning. I think they missed the boat a bit. Suggested:
Straight pencil hour hand
24 hr markers
Remove crown guards
I wonder what the price is and I checked Glycine-Direct and they don't have it yet. Interesting.
This is a massdrop exclusive just like the 1953 NOON airman. That means it will drop exclusively on drop.com and appear on glycine direct after the drop ends if anything is left.
On the design, I doubt they wanted to stray from the other combat subs except for a couple cosmetics. A GMT sub would be cool though. Seems like that would be in their wheelhouse.
Guys this is a pre-order for the watch. It won't be delivered until December 3rd. But for $399.00 it's a great deal I think. It's a 2824-2 movement. It's an exclusive with Drop in collaboration with Glycine so it will not be on the Glycine website. A Pepsi Bezel on a combat sub is great.
The movement is a Sellita SW200-1 if that matters to anyone. They mention 26 jewels in the spec details for this watch, ETA 2824 movements have 25 jewels. I do like the look of the piece, but it's also mentioned that this is a "3D rendering", the final product may vary from the pictures on the drop page. I have two Glycine subs, I could see getting this one for some diversity, but damn I wish it was 40mm. Interesting that they're not calling it a "Pepsi" bezel Glycine.
They've been migrating over for some time now with the Combat line. Both of my subs came with Sellita movements.
I'm seriously considering parting with my Airman Double Twelve for this "Soda" sub. Hmmm...What to do?
Do I really need three Glycine dive watches?
Does anyone have any experience buying watches from Mass Drop? I've only purchased through Glycine-Direct and private sellers to this point.
Guys....the lugs are curved, making it hug the wrist. You won't have a problem wearing this watch. I've had 6 Combat Subs. 4 came from Drop. Never had a problem, but you will have a wait. If you do buy from Drop when many options are listed....double check the reference numbers because they make a LOT of mistakes in their listings.
As interesting as this is, I associate Pepsi bezels with GMT and 24 hour markings, so I am passing. Much more interesting to me is the vintage model in the works shown on their FB site.
I like the watch, but I think that's because I also like the Pepsi Tudor and Rolex. The more I think about it, this Glycine is too much of a homage watch for my taste. The main reason I purchased Combat Subs is because they have their own unique style despite sharing similarities with other dive watches out there. Perhaps the "Soda" sub is an experiment by Glycine to take on Steinhart and Squale in the homage market.
Nice watch, love Glycine, but I'll pass.
I'll check out the vintage model mentioned.
If it was a GMT I'd be all over it. As it is, it's basically a diver with an ill-considered bezel coloration (in my opinion). If the blue or red had stopped at 15 with the other color continuing the rest of the way around, at least the one of the colors wouldn't over-extend (but it wouldn't be symmetrical like it is, now). This is true whether you use the bezel for elapsed time (15 min blue, 30 min red, 15 more min blue) or as a countdown timer (15 min red, 30 min blue, and another 15 min red). Although if you have a 45 min tank and are using the elapsed time method, as it is, you're golden. I think the pip should indicate the "get out" time, so - as is - the color extends past the "get out" time which may be confusing in some lighting conditions.
I know not many will likely dive with it, and dive computers are what should be used if diving, but it would still be nice for it to have been better designed.
Before anybody says it, I know that the "Pepsi dial" on a GMT isn't split at the midnight/noon times either, but - to me - the intended use of the tool makes the difference.
