Bucherer and IWC have just launched a maritime-inspired watch limited to 365 pieces crafted in a blue and white color scheme.

The IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser Chronograph has been released in what’s called a BUCHERER BLUE special edition that honors its nautical roots and celebrates its Swiss watchmaking heritage. This new piece follows on from the success of the previous two IWC Portugieser models, so it was decided to create another limited-edition watch based on one of the most coveted models in the IWC Portugieser family.

The Portugieser watch collection reflects the precision nautical instruments seafarers once used to explore the world’s oceans. Boasting a unique design and technology that was ahead of its time, the Portugieser gets its name from two Portuguese clients who approached IWC in 1939 with a request for a wristwatch that had the accuracy of a maritime chronometer.

The Portugieser, with its sleek Arabic numerals and slim leaf-shaped hands, is characterized by its precision and iconic design. The numerals, minutes scale and strap make use of the blue color scheme. The watch takes its summertime flair not only from its blue elements but also from the choice of textile for the material of the strap, created exclusively for the 40.9mm IWC Portugieser Chronograph BUCHERER BLUE.

This special edition of the Portugieser Chronograph limited edition also features an individual engraving on the case back.
