With its dizzying array of customization options, impressive attention to detail, plus attractive price points and nods to iconic, vintage watch designs of the past, UNDONE is a microbrand dedicated to bringing quirkiness and creativity to the watch world. After all, why shouldn’t watches be fun? UNDONE’s recent collaborations are proof of that much. Now, on the heels of successful collabs with Monopoly and Peanuts, UNDONE has partnered with another massive pop culture icon: Batman.
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the costumed hero, the company is debuting their latest collaboration starting December 5th: UNDONE x Batman 80th Anniversary – LONG LIVE THE BAT. Honoring the duality of Batman and Bruce Wayne, LONG LIVE THE BAT features two limited-edition timepieces that pay tribute to the most definitive eras in Batman history – The Caped Crusader and The Dark Knight. It’s a collection that’ll have you doing your best “I. Am. Batman.” growl the second you get one of these watches on your wrist.
The Caped Crusader
“The Caped Crusader” features a black dial with accents in that distinctive Batman yellow – including the “80” mark on the tachymetre, a subtle nod to the character’s 80th anniversary. But that’s not all: spot the classic early ‘90s Batman logo that lights up like the Bat-Signal in the dark, with radar lines acting as a clever homage to the Batmobile console. A micro-blasted finish with aggressive shoulder lines completes the ‘90s-era, Tim Burton Batman look.
The Dark Knight
Marked with a Wayne Industries logo and a slick, two-tone grey dial design, “The Dark Knight” is a versatile piece made for kicking ass and taking names both in the boardroom and on the city streets. Check out the 2011 New 52 DC Comics version of the Bat emblem stealthily debossed into the subdial; already a striking look by day, but one that truly comes alive at night – when the lume on the chronograph counters and appliques turn the ice-blue of a Batmobile nitrous boost.
Both “The Caped Crusader” and “The Dark Knight” come in an open glass case back, with a special commemorative Batman 80th Anniversary badge based on the cover of Detective Comics #27, AKA the character’s very first appearance on March 30th, 1939. Meanwhile, both models arrive in a tactical yet stylish metal carrying case featuring the Bat emblem, and are priced at $359 USD apiece.
In other words, these aren’t just the Batman watches fans need – they’re the ones they deserve.
Like any UNDONE collab, this isn’t just some cheesy logo slapped onto a cheap dial either. LONG LIVE THE BAT is UNDONE’s first titanium watch: a big deal in the world of microbrands—though in the past five years, UNDONE has expanded so far that it’s outgrown that label. Grade II titanium marks this unique case shape, an angular, faceted cushion case design that recalls such classics as the Heuer Camaro, and offers a 25% weight reduction from the regular UNDONE Urban series.
The case on both watches measures at 40mm in diameter (43mm including crown) with a 48mm lug-to-lug length, while height has been reduced by 0.5mm to 13.3mm – making the overall chassis lighter and thinner, and, appropriately enough for a watch inspired by Batman, leaner and meaner too. That UNDONE chose to debut this collaboration with such a groundbreaking case for the company shows just how seriously it’s taking this project, which is shaping up to be just the first of many. LONG LIVE THE BAT is the first piece in a three-year global licensing agreement between UNDONE and Warner Bros. and DC, so expect even more exciting superhero watch collabs to come.
But that’s not all. In keeping with the superhero theme, UNDONE is donating a portion of the proceeds on this project to support the heroic work of the Hope For Henry Foundation, an organization that helps seriously ill children and their families through difficult times. The company will also be donating 10 watches for the Foundation to hand out to deserving real-life heroes as well.
