I'm curious about the bezel on the Watchco. The bezel on the original 60s watch was made from Bakelite.

What about the NOS parts Omega manufactured for after service recently? These are the parts Watchco uses. Is the new bezel made from Bakelite or a modern day plastic? Is bakelite even produced these days?

This is a tough decision. I'm not crazy about the 1171 bracelet but I'd put either one on an Omega mesh anyway.

I'm leaning towards the Omega 300 just because I think it's more "interesting" at this point...

I think it would go nicely with the Speedy 20th Anniversary that has been getting alot of wrist time recently since the WUS gang talked me out of selling it:-!

I couldn't say whether it's bakelite or a similar material, but it has all the lumey goodness of the original.

In most cases, I'd automatically choose the vintage watch. But the SMP is one of my favs and probably, if not The Watch, one of the watches which marked the beginning of my WIS days. I'd find a way to have both, but if forced to choose would go with the SM300.

As for Watchco Seamasters: get them pressure tested before taking them in the water! My Watchco Ploprof leaked during an ocean swim about two months after I got it. All the parts were there, it just wasn't properly put together and I made a poor assumption. A WIS mate sent his Watchco SM300 in to STS and they remarked made a remark to the effect that they didn't think much of Watchco's watchmaking abilities. I think they've improved their technique, but they aren't an Omega SC.

Well I pulled the trigger on this Watchco from a fellow WUS Andy from Thailand.

I actually bought another Vintage Seamaster from him as well. I'd like to know where he is getting these vintage Omega that are in pristine condition :)

So far good communication and all questions answered.

They should be here in the states on ~ Wednesday and I'll post pics then.

Sounds like the first stop will be to the watchmaker and get it pressure tested.

Good point. I assume it's loaded with a 565.

There is no reason to presume difficulties with the movement by looking at the condition of the rest of the 300 but it is a tad odd just the same.

And the seller comes with golden refs.

Beautiful pics of what is shown...

What about Watcho's abilities did they not think much of? Was is just the sealing of the watch? Or something else?

I'm not sure the bezel is plastic.

This is off the Watchco website.

Item # ome0323
OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m bezel
Material: Steel
Size:
Case to fit: 166 0024
Price (AU$): 400.00
SOLD

Is the type of plastic in the Watchco bezel prone to scratching? Or does it hold up well with use?

The bezel, itself, is metal, but the insert is not. Again, I'm not sure what the specific material is, whether a type of resin or very hard plastic or what.

In my experience, it's not prone to scratching, but other, smarter people have had their SM300s longer than I had mine.
