I just bought a Seiko A914 5A09 in immaculate condition, but without a strap, on eBay. It's yet to arrive but I thought I'd start looking for strap options already.

The watch when sold in 1984 was originally fitted with a B1249 stainless steel bracelet. I haven't been able to find one online. Are there any other bracelets (Seiko or otherwise) that would look good and fit snugly between the lugs? Here's a pic of the A914 with the original bracelet for reference. I'm not sure of the lug width but I'm guessing it's 18mm.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a completely different strap option? I was thinking a nylon Nato in black or grey would look quite nice. The striped Nato the watch was advertised with is a bit too busy for my tastes - I want the watch to speak for itself. A rubber strap might also work. Thanks in advance for the advice.

I had one very similar that I bought new in the 80s. Had it on rubber it's whole life, that gives it a sportier vibe. You should be able to find a reasonably similar bracelet with straight end links on ebay. I'd be searching 'Seiko NOS bracelet'. But it might take a little while before something turns up

Thanks for the advice. The sporty vibe sounds great. I have an 18mm black rubber strap on another watch, so I'll give it a go on my new watch when it arrives.

I just realised I do have a couple of bracelet options already in my possession - but both would require additional parts. I have a brand-new Seiko bracelet which came with my Seiko 5 automatic - but it has curved end links, which I'd need to replace. I also have a cheap 1980s stainless steel bracelet from a watch I listed that didn't sell. It's the same style as my new watch's original bracelet, but the sliding clasp is now so loose I wouldn't want to risk using it. Pics of both below (sorry about the quality, it's late evening here in NZ so the light isn't great).

What do you think would be cheapest and easiest - hunt down some new end links, or get a new sliding clasp? My worry with the end links is that they mightn't be the same colour as the bracelet and watch case, which would look odd.

I don't think you'll find straight end links for the Seiko 5 bracelet. You might be able to change the clasp if it's held onto the rest of the bracelet by spring bars, but hard to tell from that photo. I'd be putting it on rubber until the right NOS bracelet showed up on ebay.

Thanks for the advice.

The seller just got back to me, and my assumption was wrong - it actually fits a 20mm strap (bigger than any of the other vintage LCDs I've owned, which all have 18mm straps). So neither of the bracelets that I already own will fit. I think I'll get a 20mm Nato for now and keep checking eBay until the right bracelet turns up.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice.

I finally settled on a bracelet (it was 20mm after all) and although I had some initial issues, they're all sorted. You can see some pics at my post here.

For a more casual look, I also have a couple of Nato Straps Co. offerings on the way in the mail - one grey, and another black and blue 'Bond' style. I'll post pics when they arrive.
