Hi guys,

Just need some help identifying an old omega constellation. Unfortunately I do not know anything about it, so I can only upload pictures. I recently inherited it from my grandfather and it houses an automatic movement.
Here are some pictures:

Lovely Gerald Genta designed Connie C-shape. Date and flat (but solid gold) bezel indicate it is a 168.017 with a 564 certified (at time of manufacture) chronometer movement (one of Omega's best ever) in it. Great essay about these here:

Blogspot host Desmond (member mondodec) would have used to have a fit if he saw those dauphine hands on this, but I think he's come to accept them as possibly original equipment.

Your case top looks a little glossy, so I wonder if the original brushed finish has been polished a bit too severely. The clarity and definition of the stars on the observatory medallion on the case back indicate that it has not been over polished (sometimes they are erased entirely).

If you open the case back, you'll find an 8-digit serial # on the movement that will allow you to date it's creation from any number of schedules on the web (just do a google search on 'omega serial numbers').

I haven't seen that bracelet before, but it sure is handsome, as is the sunburst dial.

If you intend to wear it, have it cleaned/serviced. The oils may have dried, which will cause damage to the movement (even though it may keep time well).

Fantastic pieces of informaton aardvarkbark, thank you so much for attaching the essay also.
I will get it into service ASAP and also examine inside the case back for my curiosity.

Regards,
Romes
