So, as much as I love my divers I tire of their chunkiness on my 6.5-6.75" wrist. As long as I keep my LTL lengths under ~48mm I have a watch I really like. Currently my diver rotation has a couple watches from 13-15mm that just don't get worn a lot due to their wrist presence.

So I'm looking into a really nice daily that will cover a few bases. Looking at the Khaki Auto and Mechanical; 38mm mostly. First of all, does anyone know the lug-to-lug length of either or both? Can anyone do a side-by-side comparison? I hear the lugs curve differently so I'm curious. The mechanical is only a millimeter or so thicker, wondering how much of a difference that makes in wear.

Thanks so much!

I used to have the mechanical and currently have a Khaki Pilot.
I wouldn't consider either "chunky", but the mechanical certainly wears a slightly, but noticeably thinner on the wrist.

I have a 6.75 wrist and both wear perfect on my wrist. Make your choice based on which ever looks better to you, and whether or not you want an auto or hand-wind.

good luck!

I owned the mechanical in the past and ordered another one the other night. It wears pretty darn thin, thinner than anything else I've owned, and looks excellent on a NATO. You can't go wrong either way, but IMHO the mechanical is the way to go. None of that polished shininess on my field watches ;-)

Actually, the mechanical is thinner. The auto has a caseback that is thicker than the hand wind. The L2L are pretty much the same, about 47mm. The lugs curve down on both, the auto lugs are a smoother shape as it goes down to the end of the lug.

The mechanical wears super thin. It's a fair size lug to lug though at somewhere around 47-48mm. Should be fine on your wrist. My wrist is a shade over 7 inches and flat on top. Be aware though that the case is bead blasted and might not be a perfect choice if you want an every day wear, just because it looks extra casual. I do wear it with shirts and ties to work though, cause I love this watch and don't give a fart in space what anyone thinks.

hmmmm. Still torn - love both watches; not positive which one I'll settle with...the auto seems really versatile, as it can be dressed up. If the thickness is negligible, I guess it comes down to price and if the blasted finish works or not.

Also, I have a new awesome expression thanks to GeauxTigers: "I don't give a fart in space what anyone thinks"

after gotten my Zodiac Jet Aeronaut I couldn't wear anything thick as the daily wear. It's quite thin and very light weight - almost forget that you are wearing it on the wrist. ^ ^ And its size is perfect too - not too small like my Bulova mil-spec nor big as 39a Bauhaus. With the black dial and black leather band it can be very discreet too when needed. :)

I bought the mechanical for a new job in a heavy industry laboratory. I'm in and out of gloves and sometimes Tyvek sleeves up to 50 times a day, so slim and low profile were essential, as well as not having a shiny, flashy watch as the FNG. Only issue so far has been a single instance of the crown being partially pulled out by a glove, but I've also had screw-down crowns opened by trouser pockets, so really all watches have their issues. Since cell phones are forbidden in the work area, it's my only personal tool for timing in the lab. After I regulated it I'm within one or two seconds of time.is at the end of the work week. Couldn't be happier, and wouldn't want it bigger (6.75" wrist).

Not intending to echo everyone else on this thread, but I really enjoy my Mechanical. It makes a solid daily wear piece. Pretty accurate, right out of the box. Size is just right for my 7" wrist too. As it's not a post without photos, here you go:

Oh yeah, the lume was okay too. Not nuclear like a Seiko, but better than I expected.

Love the fully lumed second hand, btw.

I have a strap that I like a lot and I have no watch for it (typical WIS problem). I spent quite some time looking for the right watch for it and a week or so ago settled on the green Khaki. Still haven't pulled the trigger but this pictures seals the deal - my strap is very similar to this one and I love the combination. Even my wife commented that it looks awesome. Thanks for posting.

Glad that I could be an enabler. :)
