Alright guys and gals, I need some valuable advice. I'm on the hunt for the best made vintage wristwatch that an old time American watchmaker has ever produced! Preferably a round case. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any photos of your piece would be a plus. Thanks

I have no idea what "best made" means. An american made wrist watch that has always caught my eye is the Hamilton Piping Rock. Watch making back then was as competitive as it is today. So at a given price range you could count on Hamilton, Elgin, Waltham, Illinois, Bulova, etc., to make watches of comparable quality.

Hamilton is getting some well deserved props on this post. No recommendations for others like Elgin, Benrus etc?
Look for a Bulova Commander from around 1965 in a 14k case. It should have a 30 jewel Self Winding movement like a 10COAC. To the best of my knowledge those were the last mechanical movements from an American watch company to be made in the USA. The industry was transitioning to Swiss movements.

Kinda cheating because these were not made as wristwatches, but:

Waltham pocketwatch conversion:

Elgin pocketwatch conversion:

Another Elgin PW conversion:

I personally like something really simple, reliable, and inexpensive - but looks pretty nice. The Bulova Sea King, my father's watch cost $45 when it was new in 1959.
