I could not resist a deal of the day from Discount Watches and they had the Invicta 6924 for $79.99

I have to say that I have never been more impressed by a watch for the cost. The only exception to that is my Orient Air Diver which I got for an incredible price. It is my favorite all time watch but I did not pay $80 shipped!!

This watch is compared to the Oris diver or the Deep Blue 1000m. While it share similarities with both it is unique in its own way which is refreshing from Invicta.

I just got the watch so these are my first impressions.

The finishing of the watch is really very nice and on par with any mid-range dive watch costing from $300-$500. It is really amazing how well built it is. The watch is extremely comfortable and is a rather heavy watch.

I will go point by point briefly.

The crystal is domed and is what Invicta calls flame fusion which is a mineral crystal with a top layer of sapphire. I thought refraction would be a big issue but frankly it is not bad. The optics of the crystal are good. No distortion except at extreme angles which I expect from a domed crystal. I am pretty impressed with the flame fusion. If it does what it says then for the cost it is a near perfect solution.

The bezel. Your standard uni-directional bezel with a pepsi color combo. The blue is a deep colbalt blue which really compliments the dial well and contrasts nicely with the red. The lume dot on the bezel looks a little fragile but so do many others that aren't made like the Seiko style. It turns well with little play. There is some back play but for the cost very nice and it lines up at 12-whew!!

The dial is a stone fleck dark blue and I was not sure if I would like it or not but I do. Blue dials for me are either love or hate and this one works for my taste. There is not too much wording which I like and the raised indicies and large luminous markers look very nice. The dial is very legible and very well done. No flaws that I can see. The hands look very similar to the Seiko Monster-at least the hour hand is an exact copy- but again they are very legible and contrast the dial very well. The red tipped second hand with luminous fill is a nice detail. I really like the dial and hands a lot.

The case is very much like the Oris and Deep Blue but I think it is just little better finished than the Deep blue but not as nice as the Oris. In fact the case is very well made and except for the word "Invicta" on the side of the case I am really impressed with the quality and finish. Certainly looks more expensive than it is and I have seen a lot of Boutique brands made in China with the same or less quality finishing costing much more.

The crown is I would say about 8mm in diam and signed with the Invicta cross. It screws down very nicely and smoothly. It is brushed like the case and the signed logo is a nice touch. Some like the crown guards and others do not. I am nuetral. I do not see them as a plus or minus. They are there and they do not look bad, but I would probably just for the sake of clean lines not have them.

The case back is and exhibition style which lets you see the movement. It is engraved with some wording describing the watch features. Looks nice but could have been a little better layed out and designed. The movement is nothing special but the display back is in keeping with the original design by Oris. 300m water resistance!! In a watch under $100 300m water resistance-amazing!

The Movement is made by Seiko and does not hack or wind. It seems very smooth for a lower beat movement. I have heard these are very accurate so we wil see. I think this movement is a million times better than the Citizen auto's they used to use. I hated the Citizen and the Seiko movement is a big step up and still keeps costs down. Very happy with this choice! I do not expect quartz accuaracy and having swiss movement just means more servicing. I do not see the advantage to hacking or handwinding. I am just paying for extras I really don't need. My only concern is if it is fairly accurate. I think these have shown to be very accurate and that is all I really need from an automatic.

Bracelet. A very thick and wide bracelet is used and it matches the case perfectly. I think the whole watch is heavy but it is very nicely distributed and so far is very comfortable to wear. Some say a taper would be better?? I think the quality and heft of this bracelet is very impressive for the cost. I like it a lot. The clasp is signed friction type with divers safety and no extension.

Lume. Invicta uses trinite which in my experience works well. I have not had a night to test though.

All in all I have to say this is one of the nicest watches I have ever owned for under $100. I would pay the going price of around $130-$150 for these with no problem at all. They are worth every penny.

I see a lot of people bash Invicta and I really think they do not know what they are talking about. One bad experience and they bash it. I certainly do not like most f their designs and do not like the fact some are blatent copies but it does not mean they do not make good watches. As long as you know what you are getting when you buy I think Invictas are great. I have had a few pro-divers over the years under $100 and they have all been good watches. I don't know if I would pay much over $400 at the very most for one but if you have been one of those people to put Invicta off the radar and you like dive watches you should give this line a look. They have several different color schemes.

When I can take more pics I will until then I hope you enjoyed the review and if you were considering one of these do yourself a favor and buy it!!

You've certainly sold me on one. Maybe somebody will buy me one for Christmas.

I love a good-looking sub homage, but with 300m water resistance and a Seiko movement, this looks like a proper quality watch.

To think, 2 weeks ago I didn't even know what a submariner watch was, but now I have 3 (homages), 2 in the post. I wish I saw this one first and I'd have bought it instead, (but with a black bezel).

The beauty of this watch is it's like a really good fake but it's not a piece of crap. I'd feel really smug wearing that.

I see a lot of people bash Invicta and I really think they do not know what they are talking about.
Many people who "bash" Invicta do so because they have a broader understanding of the watch producing and collecting world and can see the dubious way in which Invicta attempts to portray itself within that framework.

Having noted that, I'm glad you like the watch.
I own one of those (currently apart for modding) and it's a nice piece for the $$.

Duke,
That model isn't so much a direct Submariner homage, as an Oris-style copy.
I wouldn't go as far as calling it a really good fake. Rather, it's a decent sub $100 auto with the appropriate fit and finish.
It has a beefy, solid link bracelet which is, IMO, the nicest element of the watch and gives it a nice wrist presence.

Hi Dule and welcome to the forums!

This is not an homage to a Rolex Sub. This is an homage to the Oris Dive series watches. It shares the case style and bracelet and then deviates from there.

You should look at Oris dive watches they are really nice watches.

I do not feel it is like a fake watch at all. It shares similarities to the original but has some design differences to be unique on its own. I do not feel smug but I do feel lucky to own such a nice watch for such a small expense. I feel lucky to have all the watches I own. I feel they all are an excellent value and have great designs.

Enjoy collecting watches but may I suggest you look into Seiko sjkx007 and the Orient "Mako" series watches. An excellent place to start collecting automatic dive watches if that is your "thing". Just a thought, enjoy what you have no need to be smug! :)

Great price for that Scooby reissue! I had one of the original ETA "Coke" versions and paid a lot more than 80 bucks. It was a nice watch but I just didn't wear it enough to keep it. It was one of the few watches I've ever sold that I got what I paid, the only others were Seikos and my vintage Accutrons. If they have it in the gray dial/Coke bezel for that price I am on it ;-)

I dislike Invicta because in my opinion, they are a fundamentally dishonest company. Add horrible customer service and quality control, and I ask you what's not to bash? I own one invicta. I had a bad QC/CS experience with it and I will not buy another. I'm glad you enjoy your watch, but don't think my bashing of invicta is done in ignorance. It is not.

I'm glad you like your new watch.:-!

The movement is made by a Chinese subsidiary of Seiko and is essentially an authorized knock-off. That doesn't make it bad, but it's not exactly a Seiko.

Criticism of Invicta is not "bashing". Believe me, Invicta asks for and richly deserves every bit it gets. It might more truly be said that people who blindly defend Invicta do not know what they are talking about.

That said, nice quick review and congratulations on your new watch.

The NH25/26 are made by Seiko Instruments International and are essentially the same as a 7s26A. Time Module Inc., a Chinese subsidiary, markets the movements. Make no mistake, they are Seiko movements intended for the secondary market, just like Citizen markets Miyota movements. The main difference being that Citizen uses Miyota movements in their own watches as well as selling them to just about every other non-Swiss watch manufacturer in the world.

This is a link to the NH25/26 service manual:

http://www.timemodule.com/sii/pdf/nh25_26_tech.pdf

Having disassembled more than one 7s26 and going through the SII manual I can say that they are the same though I would need to tear them down side by side to be totally sure.

I am not an Invicta fan, however I have had no problems with my 2 Pro Divers. Unfortunately others have had CS issues, I have never had to deal with them.

Congrats on the Scooby, for the buck it is hard to beat. Yes Invicta does make some nice watches for the price point. I have sold more than I currently own and I do like the ones I still have. As other have stated Invicta's rep for bad CS, QC and business practices is deserved.

I will still enjoy the Invictas I have but will no longer purchase their products.

As long as your are happy and satisfied with it, that is all that matters.

Enjoy the Scooby, it is a nice watch.

I'm no Invica fanboy but if you get one which works and nothing falls off that is GREAT value for US$80!

Yeah, hopefully nothing will fall off! :)

I have had the watch a few days and it has really grown on me. The blue dial is one of the nicest I have owned. Of course the Omeaga Seamaster blue and Oris TT1 blue dials are my absolute favorites this is actually a really nice blue dial. It does not comapare to those but the blue fleck is rather nice. It catches the light in different ways and sometimes even has a glow to it which I really like. T o be honest wearing this watch makes me really miss the Oris I once had.

As others have noted the word "Invicta" engraved on the left side of the case is dissapointing but because of the brushed finish is not too bad. I wish they would not do things like that and another reason why I would never buy an expensive Invicta because I would not wnat to pay a lot of money and have the Invicta sribe on the case. For the price I paid I can overlook it but aesthetically it would be a lot better if they stopped such a practice.

I would also prefer if the crown did not have crown guards and was located at four o'clock instead of three.

I would also like the lume on the dial to match the hands. As of now the dial glows weakly and the hands glow well. Better than the other way around which I had on an expensive swiss dive watch once.

The other thing I noticed is some kind of smudge, fog like film on the under side of the crystal only noticible outside or at certain angles with a flashlight. Highly annoying and can't believe they did't wipe the crystal before installing it! However, again I have seen this on other watches. On Vostok I had which I really liked had a thumb print on the underside of the crystal. That was the worst. Still something that just should not happen on any watch period.

So there you have it the good and bad of it. So far nothing has fallen off and it seems to be very accurate. It does have its flaws but for all of its flaws I think the overall design and heft more than make up for them.

As I said before this watch for me is a keeper. I really enjoy it.

Some day I will have the money for a real Oris but until then this is a great affordable watch despite what people think of the brand!

I picked one of those up for $106, and frankly thought that was a good deal for this watch. The only issue I have is that the bezel is pretty stiff. I've never been a big fan of their tritnite lume, but for $100, this was a good deal. For $80, it's even better! Enjoy it.

That is a good deal. Like I said I would pay up to $150 for one of these and be happy. I think they are easily worth that price. The Seiko movement, 300m wr, nice bracelet and case and good build quality make this watch worth double the price if it were not for the brand.

The bezel is a little stiff but it loosens up over time. It does seem like 120 click and lines up nicely. Seiko has the best bezel for cost of any brand but these aren't bad either. I like the fact the lugs are do not shroud the bezel like the deep blue.

I have not been a huge fan of the Tritnite lume either but on the older pro-divers the lume on the dial matched the hands and would glow throughout the night. The hands on my scooby glow like a torch and then fade but are readable all night but the dial glows a few hours maybe 4-6 at the most and then is not readable or useful. I can still tell time because of the hands but I can be off by an hour without the markers as a reference.

That being said I am debating whether or not for my Birthday/Christmas I am going to get the black dial model or one of the sterile Rolex Sea dweller homages I have seen on this forum for about $65. It looks so nice and even has a excape valve but I really do like the scooby for the money.

I am glad you like yours and got a good deal. These are really nice for the price!!

How is the Seiko movement running in yours?

I really am impressed by the NH25A. I hope they start using it in more watch brands and fade away the old Miyota 82xx series.

Rob

I have three of these: SS with blue dial, SS with green dial, and TT with black dial (my fav). I luv 'em. I have to say, my blue dial one has a crappy PR-- I can wear it all day and it stops around 6 hours after I take it off for the evening. Probably needs a service or something, but I'm not gonna bother, for a $70 watch. The others (all seiko movements) keep extremely accurate, seconds/day time, with a nice PR.

Invicta sure is a controversial brand among WUS WIS, and deservedly so, but I like 'em.

I am a little confused you have three of the Invicta Scooby's? You have an Oris TT1 with a dial as well. I think the Oris is an awesome watch and I want one! I really like the blue dials on the Oris. In fact, if I ever get money to buy nice watches agaiI think it will be first on my list. The real Oris diver represents true Swiss quality and value. One of the few brands that do. The build quality on the Oris is equal to any fine brand like Omega and Rolex. Maybe not exactly as good but really in the same league for sure. Considering that you can get a new TT1 for around $800 with a swiss movement, 300m water resistance, great lume and dial, and excellent build quality these are hard to beat. I was at first not a fan because of the lugs but now I really miss the one I had.

As for your blue model what movement is in the Invicta? Does it have the swiss movement or the Seiko movement with the bad power reserve? Just curious. You said your other Seiko powered scoobys ran fine so I am wondering what is in the blue model? I agree about servicing but if you can get it repaired under warranty I would do it. Sounds defective for sure. Of course a good watch repair man could probably open it up and tell you what is wrong and at that point you could decide whether it is worth the cost of repair. If it is a $20 fix it might be worht it?? Of course it is up to you!
I see you just got a Seiko Monster "orange" those are pretty nice!! The lume is about the best there is! Nice collection you got there!!

Glad you like yours!!

Great watch and great price. When I took mine to my jeweler who services my Rolex's he estimated that it was a 3 to 4 hundred dollar watch. He was shocked when I told him it was $80. He actually told me I should save my money for another Rolex as opposed to buying an Oris because an Oris doesn't manufacture their own movements anyway. Kind of funny.

I find the watch to be acceptably accurate. I seldom wear a watch for more than a day at a time, so really haven't had the chance to time it for accuracy. I can say that it's not doing anything blatant, so I'm pretty happy with it. Enjoy yours!
