Hi,

My first attempt at wanting a *good* watch as I've only got those $15 ones.

I've been browsing this forum for hours about what to get and understand the terminologies thrown around to get a better understanding of what I'm looking for.

As seiko and citizen seem to be affordable (?) for their quality, I'm looking to settle on one of these, but preferably citizen since they keep time more accurately with their eco-drive??

Anyway, can I please get some help on finding a watch that has the following from either brand:

Budget $150-160USD (are there even watches at this price for what im looking for...) hopeful for discounts online in this event

37mm - 39mm dial diameter (small wrist, 5.8 inches)...or should i opt for 36mm - 38mm? 40mm looks justy big? Can I please ask for suggestions for the dial diameter?

Leather strap, preferably black or brown

Quartz movement

Dial thickness no more than 11mm

Classic/minimalistic look such as the Citizen Stilettos, or the Seiko equivalent look (which i don't know what category it's called)

Thank you in advance!

40mm dial diameter:

Check out the Citizen Stiletto line. Closeouts can sometimes be found within your price range. Ecodrive does not alter accuracy. Rather it uses a solar cell to charge the watch. If you can stretch the budget the Stiletto watches would be a good choice.

If you don't mind battery power then check out Skagen watches. Minimalist, good quality and nice looking.

I wouldn't go larger than 38 with that sized wrist, personally. And if the watch is mostly dial, I'd go even smaller (maybe as small as 34).

Are you looking for something dressy or sporty or casual or a mix that can work in any occasion?

Seiko makes some 36-37mm Solar Quartz watches that can easily be had in your price range. They all come on bracelet, but they are inexpensive enough that you could easily pick up an aftermarket leather strap to replace the bracelet with and still be within your budget.

How about a 38mm Seiko SUP869P1?

The Citizen Stiletto AR1110-02A is extremely thin and has a sapphire crystal,

Thanks for the measurement recommendation. It mostly is going to be dial. I won't be going higher than 38mm as you advise. It's quite hard to find a cheap one around my price point and 38mm or thinner with the seiko solar / citizen eco-drive minimalist look

It'll be for dressy and casual, not so much sporty since the leather would probably degrade from the heat and sweat

The Seiko you suggested I can find for $90USD on discount at the moment.

I'm trying to search for the Citizen Stiletto AR1110-02A you listed, but I cannot find it anywhere online to purchase.

Do you know which websites might have it?

I think that model of Stiletto has been discontinued. There are quite a few other models, best to search with just Citizen Stiletto as the search term. One that would suit you is SID66-5191. It's a Japan only model but there are sellers on ebay and elsewhere. 35mm and 5.4mm thick should be a great size for your 5.8" wrist.

However, all of them will be quite a bit more expensive than the Seiko. They are higher quality with AR treated sapphire crystals.

Okay, I've narrowed it down to two:

Citizen Eco-drive BM8240-03E
- 36mm dial
- 8mm thick

- $105USD

Seiko solar SUP869P1
- 38mm dial
- 6 or 7mm thick (differing sources...)

- $90USD

Which looks better in your opinion, and/or more suited to my wrist size

Apologies as I'm unable to post images of the watches in my post due to my low post count

Looks are subjective. That also applies to a degree with size. The Seiko is dressier and will appear large on your wrist, but you may like that look.

I have 3 eco-drives and they've been rock solid over years of ownership. Nothing from Seiko that was solar powered...

Just from a reliability POV, Citizen is tops IMO.

And in terms of variety and watch style and price points, Citizen leads too.

If your budget should expand a little more, there may be JDM models that may be of interest. I don't know.
