Well, thanks for your service. Freedoms not cheap, but neither is that Speedy.

If your going to Q then your in no danger of damaging your watch, truth be told. So sure, bring it and a Luminox or Gshock for PT football or whatever.

I deployed manytimes with a special watch (gifts like yours) and a couple tough beaters. Always worked out fine.

Just found this info for you

well I was there almost 2 years ago when they opened up the new housing/BX/chow hall over in what was "millennium village" In the CC compound the trailer dorms had 120/208 60 cycle but most stuff,ie PSP,laptops, etc have transformers anyways. I believe they have WiFi but when I was there is was just going in the common areas- "bra area/pool, and over in the BX. Everyone can go off base on a 7 day cycle, as a TSgt you will get to drive if your squadron has a vehicle that is designated for offbase(must not be a GOV but a leased vehicle) Must see places is basically Doha which has a couple malls, nice beaches, cruise the Corniche which is right on the water. Place kinda reminds me of Miami or something. When I was there we had a guy who taught some mixed martial arts, but there should be something for sure. They had a kickazz 2 day a week ABS class from what I recall. Chow halls are good, lots of food- no 2 meat 1 starch crap. Basically your there for a year,bring/ship all your toys over. Take classes, they have from what I've seen the best education center in the AOR.

Best of Luck with your deployment to Qatar! I was there for 4 months in 2009....and it is a typical US base, loads of facilities and good accommodation, especially compared to UK bases that I normally serve at.

In fact I am deploying this year for 6 months to Florida! Not quite the same as Qatar, but weather wise, perhaps similar. I shall be taking with me my Omega Seamaster GMT, figuring the function will be useful and also my Speedmaster, both of them on SS bracklet.

Have a great tour!

Bring some Polywatch to remove scratches from the hesalite crystal, and a polishing cloth. You don't want to scratch it on day one and have to look at the scratch for the rest of deployment!

Click the link below; I've bought 2 of these from this seller, one green and one black, I think they're my most comfortable nato straps. Look great, too.

Nato G10 Nylon Watch Strap - Superior Quality PVD Stainless Steel Hardware from Watchworx TSS UK

Ok, I think I'm goin to take it, but need to find a NATO that doesn't have shining SS hardware. I'd rather flat black, and plain black strap. Any recommendation on strap vendors? Also thought a velcro strap would be nice.

I'm another that votes for taking it...and a couple NATO/ZULU straps. I'm sure someone mentioned it (or you already know), but the great part about NATO/ZULUs is that if one spring bar breaks, the watch is still held in place by the other --- not the case with a bracelet or other strap.
