Fellow WUS, while picking my SubC date at the AD, I was given a chance to buy either the Rolex Submariner No-Date (Ref. 114060) or the 2016 (new) Seadweller for around $2k more than the retail price plus taxes. There was this local businessman who on the waitlist for both and now he got both. He wanted to sell one of them for a profit/compensation for his wait or loss of interest on deposit or something he said.

Is it worth buying it for keeping it and flipping it to someone at cost if I buy one of those? Will I recover my costs or will be down under?

I wouldnt buy a Sub for 2k over retail when the secondary market has plenty of excellent pieces for just under retail.
Agreed. Unless you want to pay $2,000 to peel off the stickers, I'd get a like-new Submariner from the secondary market.

I've never paid more than retail and rarely have I paid MSRP on a Rolex. Discount or no deal for me.
Exactly. I'm fine with people reselling used goods, but something about reselling new goods above MSRP just irks me. I know "it's just business", but it's still annoying.

No need Danny,

I was assured late last year by EVERY expert on this site that this current SubC shortage was caused by:

1. The mythical Christmas shutdown (which apparently is 9 months long)

2. A new movement Sub due to be released at Basel.

Im sure those posters will chip in the difference for you.

Thanks for the good advise WUS mates. I almost bought the SubC shortage talk. Mainly, due to me visiting a number of ADs in Chicago and being turned away with words like - 'Oh, we don't even know when and if they will be in stock' (why the hell are you an AD if you cannot get one in stock???), "it is impossible to even get on the waitlist", " the waitlist is at the discretion of the owner and is reserved for VIP customers (who are these VIP customers who get on the waitlist?? If I were a richie rich, I would get what I want, then and there, and not bother about a few thousand extra)"...seems like the ADs have ganged up to create an artifical shortage. I agree on the shortage for new models like the new Pepsi GMT II, but why is there is a shortage for the Submariners???
