OK. I've had the GMT for a little over a week, with some decent wrist time (including a trip). Thought I'd give it a quick comparative review.
This thing POPS. Highly legible, super comfortable, and, while not a small watch, its size isn't cumbersome (and I have a pretty small wrist, about 6.25 inches). Tested the power and got a hair over 70 hours, so the specs don't lie.
I love the understated colors and the attention to detail. I love the tool-y feel and look, and the fact that it mostly flies under the radar. The only people who have noticed are two Rolex Ads, and they both gushed a bit over it.
Super accurate so far!
The lume absolutely screams on this. Went to see Endgame, could easily read the dial even after 3+ hours
How does this stack up to my Black Bay ETA? Very well. I was a bit concerned thinking "do I need a Black bay GMT if I already have a Black Bay"? Well, yes, I do
They are very different watches. I have a Black Bay Blue, and the blue color on the GMT isn't exactly the same, it's a bit brighter (I don't know if they altered the color on the in-house Black Bays?). They have very different wrist presence too. No one will call the Black Bay a small watch, but after wearing the GMT for a while the Black Bay feels positively dainty.
The bracelets are very different. I still like the original Black Bay bracelet aesthetically, but the rivet bracelet has grown on me. And it is MUCH more comfortable - I can't get the Black Bay bracelet exactly right, so I tend to wear the watch a bit loose. The GMT fits like it was designed for my wrist. Again, it's a large watch (you can see the profile compared to the Black bay), but it fits so well I forget it's there.
My only slight complaint is the bezel action. The action on the Black Bay is a very smooth satisfying click, no back-play and solid as a rock. The action on the GMT isn't nearly as satisfying, and it actually rocks a bit if I press on one side (I've seen videos of this as well). You'd think that for a $4K watch a little more forethought could have gone into it.
But that's my only negative. It's a great watch and I look forward to many more years with it!
