Hi everyone,

I am brand new to this site as well as watch affiocondos in general so please excuse my lack of knowledge or proper etiquette in posting a new thread here. I have a Seiko watch that formerly belonged to my wife's father. It was left in a shoe box since 1976 when her dad passed away. We ran across it the other day and almost as soon as I picked it up and looked it over, it started running! I've taken it to my watch repair shop and had the link on the bracelet fixed, that was the only thing wrong with it.

My question(s) are, can anyone tell me the history of this watch? Everything I've been able to Google seems to have a connection to Viet Nam. Her dad was a WWII vet but did spend much time in VFW posts and the like. so perhaps that is how he came about it. I believe it was manufactured in 1968. I am proudly wearing it now and would just like to know more about this specific model.

It is a Seiko "5", 23 Jewels and the back case is stamped "Stainless Steel", "Water Proof", 5126-7010, Serial # 7N01703. I have taken 4 low quality photos with my cell phone and uploaded them to this thread. I thank you for taking the time to read this and I would be most appreciative of any information you could share. Take care all.

Other than being made during the Viet Nam era, the watch probably has no connection with the war. It appears that the serial number on the back begins with 7N. This would indicate to me that it was made in November of 1967.

9/18/2013 - Sorry if this reply is a bit dated, but i just joined the forum and read your posting. I too found a Seiko 5, 23 Jewel. model 5126-7010, in a long forgotten box. Only in this case, it is my watch that I put away with my other souveniers from Viet Nam. I purchased this watch in the Camp Zama, Tokyo Japan PX in early 1961.
Viet Nam hadn't really started yet. Iwore the watch on a daily basis until 1968 when, an encounter with a high voltage generator put me on the ground and the melted half of the band.

Recently. I took it out of the box, shook it, and to my surprise and it began running. So far all I have done is replace the band and I have been wearing it for about a week. Keeps good time.
