Disregarding the premium on the Nautilus which of these two nautically themed watches would you rather have? They both have a date, hour minutes and sweep seconds hand, power reserve is the same, balance is the same with the Gyromax. The Nautilus a semi-oscillating 28,800 vph 4 Hz the Aquanaut also at 28,800 vph 4 Hz. Balance spring Spiromax on both as with the Patek seal.

Nautilus is 40mm and the Aquanaut is 42.2mm, both are WR to 120m, hight difference is negligible, the Nautilus has a rounded octagonal case, while the Aquanaut is a jumbo format more “masculine”. They both come in all kinds of gold and stainless steel.

To me the Nautilus is more a dress watch while the the Aquanaut looks like like a basketball sports watch. While being nautically themed neither is a diver watch. The Nautilus comes in at just over 30k, while the Aquanaut is just under 40k.

Which of these two watches would you choose and why?

The Aquanaut is also listed at 40mm unless you are referencing a white gold model, so the size is pretty much identical.

Your prices are off too, I think the Aquanaut is under 20K, not 40K, unless again you are referencing WG.

I would get both if I could, and as too which one first, whichever one is available at MSRP. The Nautilus is the original Genta design and has greater historical providence. The Aquanaut has the advantage of being sportier and more casual. I prefer the bracelet of the Nautilus but might wear the Aquanaut with rubber strap more in daily life (I don't like the Aquanaut bracelet). Both have their beauty and if you are in a position to compare both side by side, I say pick the one which appeals to you more and which will impact your pocket book less. I hope to be able to get both in my lifetime, once they become available again as the Instagram crowd moves on to the next hot watch.

Once, I serious aspired to own a Nautilus, specifically a 5712; however, that was when grey market prices were about $26K. As time has gone on, I have begun to favour the Royal Oak, although I recently picked up a limited edition Laureato at a fraction of the price of either, and I must say for now I am content.

The Aquanaut has never factored into my thinking, and it would not scratch my itch for a stainless steel luxury sport watch.

I'd go with the Aquanaut for the simple reason that I generally dress casual or 'smart-casual' and it suits that style better. The Nautilus is beautiful but there are other options I'd consider first for a dressier watch in this price league.

I wasnt that impressed by the Aquanaut compared to the RO (I had the option of getting either).

The Nautilus is certainly a sharper-looking watch, although to what degree the hype affects my evaluation, I cannot say.

Since you are asking our opinion, my answer would be "neither"--I just never would spent that much money on any watch--to me, no watch is worth more than a maximum expenditure of about $5K, where above that, it just becomes money thrown away on frivolity. This is NOT to criticize anyone who does spend more than $5K on a watch--anyone can do anything they want--but again, as for me, watches have a saturation point, above which they simply don't merit the extra allotment required to procure them.

I prefer the style of the Aquanaut over the Nautilus

Currently own both on the bracelet but if I have to choose only one, it would be the Nautilus. It has a more refined feel on the wrist. Comparatively the Aquanaut feels chunkier due to the thicker bracelet.
I've never handled an Aquanaut (only seen online pics), but the bracelet doesn't seem to complement the watch. It seems somehow like the watch deserves a better bracelet.

I like both, the Nautilus is special horologically because of the Gerald Genta influence.
Though the Aquanaut has that premium one watch Explorer type appeal, especially on rubber.
The Aquanaut is sports casual at it’s best imho, nothing like it, then again it’s pretty low key, while being modern and unique as well.

I used to feel in the minority liking the Aquanaut better, but recently the Nautilus has really grown on me. I don't know if it's just the hype. And I still prefer the white dial Nautilus to the blue or any other color...

Nautilus has turned into probably the most recognizable Patek, while I still feel like the Aquanaut is under the radar. If given the opportunity to own one... for MSRP... I would have to go Nautilus.

Not a fan of the styling and find both of them overpriced and overhyped.

If I ever wanted a real dress watch, it would be an ALS 1815 in that price range, or APRO and I pocket the $15k difference.

Disregarding the prices and assuming I'm being offered one for free: the Nautilus seems to look that little bit nicer.

It does amuse me to have specifically nautical themed / named watches with price tags that high, which are only 12ATM rated.

I never cared for the Nautilus. It was definitely an old guy watch until recently, and its current surge in popularity has not improved its looks or its desirability to me. Of the two I'd get the Aquanaut, and prices being what they are, I couldn't and wouldn't spend what was needed to get a Nauti. If I was in the market for a Patek, I'd buy a non-sports model, and add a Rolex or simlar for the water.

Having only seen them in the wild, I'd say the Aqaunaut is much sportier and the Nautilus is more "smart casual." Nautilus, it seems to me, is a bit more flashy too bc it's got a distinctive shape and by virtue of the fact that it's got a greater chance that someone notices it on your wrist (but like 1% vs 0.5%, or probably more like 0.5% vs 0.25%, but depends on your social circles!). Having said that, I'd probably end up wearing the Aquanaut more because it's less flashy and a little more under the radar.
