So, i bought one of these...

...it has an 8T63 quartz movement.

The chronograph seconds hand resets to 1 second before the 12 position. I know, it's just 1 second but it looks really crap just sitting there in the wrong position! The usual way of resetting (crown to pos 2, hold A until seconds hand does a full sweep, press B until reset to 0) doesn't work so I took it back to the shop. They just couldn't figure it out and it turns out they'd given me the wrong instruction manual too! After a week the correct instruction manual arrived. It has NO instruction on how to re-calibrate the chronograph!! I couldn't believe it. Are Seiko really manufacturing chronograph movements than cannot be re-calibrated :-s

If there's a secret way of re-calibrating this please, let me know, thanks :-d

Not 100% certain, but I don't think you can reset this watch beyond refitting the hands! Damn nuisance, but I hope I am not right but I fear I could be.

Best regards
Jim

This is a mechaquartz movement.

The chronograph mechanism is mechanical. So unlike a normal motorised quartz movement, the chronograph is mechanically engaged, disengaged and resetted from the motor, instead of the motor starting, stopping and resetting the hands back to 0.

You will need to bring it to watchmaker to have the hands re-seated.

yusry is absolutely correct. I have one chronograph with the Seiko VK-63 meca-quartz movement and another with the Seiko VK-64 meca-quartz movement. They are both great timepieces but neither can be recalibrated to zero via the crown and pushers. What is significant, however, is that they are much more mechanical-like in use compared to quartz only chronographs.

Thanks very much for the replies. I had no idea it was mecha-quartz. I've heard of these movements but know nothing about them. If it's going to cost money to have it calibrated i'll just flip it

The Seiko _Txx movements are not mecha-quartz. Those are the VK series.

Edit: my mistake. Looks like the 6t63 and 8t63 are in fact mechaquartz, which means they cannot be recalibrated. One of the reasons I'm not a fan.

Yeah the 8T63 is just the Seiko branded version of the VK63. Same goes for the 8T67 and VK67.
