Hello Experts,

Firstly I'll admit that I am a beginner to watch and so far purchased all the flashy fashion brands...nothing serious. Off late I am fascinated by the look of a Diver watch (Thanks to the you tube Chanel - The Urban Gentry) and obviously want to get one. While browsing I came across these two models the Seiko 5 Sports (SRPD63) and Orient Kamasu Green which suites my choice (I love the Green look) and budget. As I am a novice, I am not sure what lies inside....the movement, the engineering, the accuracy, the legends to it. Can someone enlighten me as which one should I get as my first diver. Are there any alternative? Any Swiss diver near this price range or around $ CAD 600-800?

Secondly I live in Toronto, Canada. Where should I buy these watches from. Like in Amazon, the Seiko sells at 400$ as well as 295$ for the same watch... I am not sure the authenticity of these online ones... Personally I prefer to go in store and feel the watch before buying... Any suggestions?

Thanks & Regards
Souvik Sen

C65 Trident auto from Christopher Ward. Just under the top end of your range at 795 USD. Swiss made with British style. They might have other drivers at that price that would be appealing. I have a have wound version but my son in law has the auto and loves it.

PS - orient might not be as popular as the Seiko's but that Kamasu in green is awesome and has better specs that the 5 with the sapphire crystal and more WR. You couldn't go wrong with that for the money. Red one is gorgeous as well...

Does the Orient have a screw down crown? I don't think the new Seiko 5's have screw crowns. Amazon is legit, most eBay sellers with good ratings are good too.
There's a screw down crown on the Kamasu. It sits much differently on the wrist as well. It's slimmer and less top heavy. I have an SKX and a Kamasu. I swim with both all the time.

The Kamasu, as stated, is much higher spec than the 5KX and dressier. Add a Strapcode Jubilee and it changes it dramatically.

I almost think there are Seiko people and Orient people. I am a steadfast Orient person. I know Seiko makes great quality watches, but I would generally always recommend an Orient over a Seiko because that has been my experience. I prefer the designs Orient releases. My exception would be a Grand Seiko. I don't think anything Orient has done even comes close. So the Kamatsu.

Orient all the way. The green Kamasu is a well-spec'd looker, the SRPD will always be a SKX with a large asterisk.

I’m sometimes baffled that the street price of Seiko’s baby marine master, shogun and sumo are nearly double the orient star, when the accuracy of the respective movements and specs (all 200m ISO-compliant divers) are virtually indistinguishable.

Wow...these are magnificent... considering the price point, how do you compare this with the Tissot Seaster 1000?

Thanks... I am considering the Kamasu Green as well. Any site where I can get a good deal for original pieces.
I prefer holding it ...try and feel it before buying but now in Toronto there are hardly any such place....so will consider online only.

Yes...I am watching over LongIsland...that has a good review. ORIENT KAMASU GREEN DIAL
You suggest any other site to look at?
Long Island Watch is great. I recently got some parts to mod my Orient Ray and they worked out fantastically.

I think it's always a good idea to look at Jomashop, as well. Their prices are very smart. I've ordered two watches from them and the customer service has been good.

For divers around that budget, the Kamasu is extremely hard to beat. Especially in that awesome green. The only other idea I might have would be the Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba in green. It's a much more military look, however.

Orient makes wonderful, affordable watches. I've got a Mako 2 that's been in rotation for a couple years now. Can't comment on the Kamasu

I will +1 Christopher Ward. I just received my C60, 38mm...pretty much blows all of my other divers out of the water at a stellar price

But for the Orients, they are great value for what you are getting. I've always found the Seiko sports a bit too chunky. Best of luck!
