When were the ADSL02 and NASL01 launched?
Thanks,
Ian
Hi Ian, The NASL range was introduced in June 2009, initially as the "Greenfield" series of three Automatic Day Date watches.

Just launched

I have no idea when they released the ADSL series but I should be able to dig that out once I return home from my travels.

BTW why do you need this information? I am really curious :)

Interested in watches using technology from a bygone era.

Bit surprised the NASL series was only recently launched as the 8200 is from the mid-70s.

FWIW, The following is what I was given to understand by some experienced HMT hands:

HMT's mainstay automatic movement was the 6500 which they were making from the 70s. They started making some watches using the 8205 in the 90's like the Sujay, Arvind etc with bilingual day indication. As the 6500 tooling started wearing out and the number of rejects in the 6500 line started increasing, they decided to simply import more 8205s instead of renewing the 6500 tooling. The 6500 was finally phased out sometime in 2010.

ETA: the ADSLs use the trusty 6500 movement but with the non quickset day complication removed. No further 6500 ADSLs will be made once the current ADSL stocks are depleted.

I think it was 2007 when HMT's ADSl Launched , there's mention of ADSL's in 2008 posts and even pictures of these watches are also there:

Though NASL got first mentioned in SEP. 2009 post, so yes they were launched around that time:

I got a crap Arvind with 8205 movement, probably this is older than, 2007's ADSL launch, so I think HMT's management was toying with the ideas of launching watches with 8205 movement as old as that. there's also reports about HMT itself manufacturing 8205 movements in house but I am not certain that they doing it in house or not.

6500's where first introduced in mid sixties, that was around 65's not 70's

It says "In 1972, Watch factory II was set up alongside the Bangalore Factory to manufacture Automatic Day Date Watches with Japanese Technology." that doesn't mean they have not manufactured Automatic watches prior to that. I think there are examples of automatics available to prove this, may be they have assembled the 6500 movements or imported them or part manufactured, but still there are specimens which suggests existence of HMT autos before 70s. Like wise You won't find mention of Lady's automatic any where on HMT site but still they exists

Please search previous threads, to find the details, I have a HMT watch which have citizen movement in it and there are many examples prior to launch of Rajat Which says HMT Automatics, I can agree on this point that Rajat saw daylight only after this plant was established.

Do you agree that even HMT knows about all the models they have produced so far and they have records and cataloging of all of them :)

Of course, I am aware about the previous posts, pictures etc. I am interested to know how one determined the year these were made. :)

HMT is losing its institutional memory slowly as the old hands retire. I agree, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. But they do have an archive and it is a mine of information, provided someone has the access, time, energy and proximity to undertake a proper authoritative research.

I received my Janata today. A very nice watch for the price. The case has a few blemishes, but then again, it will get them with use. Overall a very attractive watch. My only complaint is the noise the movement makes and the strap.
