Hi guys,

So I saw these watches from Detomaso that caught my eye.

I wanted to know if some of you guys have any experience with this brand? It has a Seiko movement so that should be fine but more in terms of build quality and such.

Below two examples of the watch I saw.

Thanks!

Not bad as design, and the Seiko made movement makes me feel confident.

I have a De Tomaso Crotone, it's a pretty elegant watch with a serviceable Miyota movement.
It keeps very good time and is easy on the eyes, I would recommend it for the right price.

And since we need a pic, here it is, borrowed form the web as I'm lazy.

I had a Crotone. Would not recommend.

The applications on the dial were very thin and bland - without nice edge finishing. The dial finish overall was also quite "rough", without fine detail, and together with indices and handset led to an overall cheap appearance (imo). The case finishing was.. Not great. Every edge was very non-crisp and rounded, not in the nice way of "properly rounded with equal arclength and proportions", but in the bad way of "looks like somebody melted some fudge". Dial looked plasticky. (I know, it was plastic, what did I expect, etc. etc. - but a plasticky look is not a nice thing to have...)

I think, with that brand, you get what you pay for, which frankly is not all that much. Case-wise, my Seiko5 was better-finished, and as for the designs... well, okay, that's in the eye of beholder.

Here are some slightly old real-world photos, might give a better idea than marketing promo-images:

thanks! This is the kind of info I wanted! You think that cr*ppy quality is for every model? Some seem pretty nice and get get reviews in the links mentioned above.

I've got a Firenze, and although I like the design, and like the lightness on the wrist it is a pretty flimsy watch that feels very much like a 20 dollar Chinese watch from some of the larger shopping websites. The bezel has tons of play and moves way too easy, the way the time setting works feels pretty cheap. Still I find it "okay" value for the money and it does have good looks and style. A non watch enthusiast bystander would probably think it was much more expensive than what it costs, and perhaps even classify it as some sort of Navitimer.

I've worn it many times, and it's never let me down, in this price range you're also usually better off with a quartz. I always find it feels comfortable and light on the wrist, and with such cheap watches it never hurts too much if it gets damaged.

Cheaply made homage watches with okay movements. The Firenze is visually based on the Breitling Navitimer, hence an attractive design. What possible link the Navitimer has to the city of Florence, I suppose no-one will ever know.
There are plenty of better watches out there for the money, but not many Navi homages in this price bracket. Only the Seiko Flightmaster comes to mind as an alternative.

The best way to buy a cheap Detomaso firenze is to look out for the auctions that several sellers run on a well known auction site. I got one a while back for ÂŁ22 and it is a chrono with a Seiko VD53 movement with date complication. As a chrono it is a bit basic to say the least, but it works and for the money I paid and as it is supposed to be water-resistant it is ok as a beater that did not cost a packet. On balance I would have rather paid the money for a cheap Chinese watch as I reckon I would have got better value for money and a better watch!

Regards
Jim

Well, I've had a Chinese version of it, where the " rotating" bezel didn't have a mechanism of it's own, it was simply turning along with the glass in to an O-ring and after half a turn I held it in my hands, so yes, you can be far worse off than with a Detomaso! :D

I did salvage the strap off of that particular watch (which was nice enough luckaly to be worth the money on its own) and the rest is in a dusty corner of a drawer...

Are they then Chinese made Swiss part watches which are German owned?
I'm pretty confused about this. I think they look nice.

I remember long ago going to a swap meet and buying a cheap watch that sort of looked like the Firenze, which lasted about a month before it broke. But I was only a ten years old at the time so I wasn't expected to have something expensive.

I am interested in the Aurino model.

I recently bought a Detomaso chronograph with a leather strap. It really caught my eye while I was shopping for an everyday watch to replace my damaged Seiko. It initially had a foggy crystal but I contacted customer service and they quickly resolved the issue. I can see where watch aficionados may be critical of it but, for me, it's suits my needs perfectly.

I have purchase about 7 different models and never had any problems they all keep perfect timing alI have ever done is had new batteries as to when nessesery
I had many complements re the design
It just sour bloggers who try to put down the watches because they are so affordable

I know this is a reanimation from five years ago.

But I want to know what Google's got on me. For what must be nearly two years the only adverts I consistently see are Detomaso Watch Adverts.
Google knows what watches I buy, since it harvests everything I do online. So surely they must realise I'm as likely to buy one of these as I am to cover my head in apple sauce and bake it.

(I'm sure they're okay watches, just no where near what I'm interested in).

I loved the Pantera… was a teenage crush.

(This was the most recent active thread on the brand)

Somehow the internet thinks that I want to see ads for DeTomaso watches, and this one caught my eye.

Why would a center seconds-hand quartz chronograph have two dials that go to 60? Could one be for elapsed minutes and the other for 1/60 split seconds? Or is one of them really a small seconds hand in a weird configuration? The description definitely claims chronograph functionality.

Next time, scroll down on the product and look up the movement number.
One subdial is for running seconds, the other is for chrono minutes. I believe this is a fairly common arrangement on chronographs.
