That's really very sad. Unfortunately I had already ordered an A168W-1 at the time of this post. Perhaps I will just sell it then if the life expectancy is really so poor.

I was hoping to find the Loftys Y2003,

But it seems the company disappeared.

The problem is, I really love the style of the A168/B640 Casios, if only there was watches out there that fulfilled the design aesthetics as well as build quality.

At last! I just found it online! There is also a gold tone model. The problem is that the whole site is in greek. But you can chat with them online, in english (look down and right)

Yeah, I had found that site already but the prospect of paying 44 Euros didn't seem appealing to me so I decided to stick with the A168.

Also, just as a little update for any future watch prospectors, I now own the A168 and have been wearing it consistently for a matter of months, and I love it. The only downside is the lack of countdown timer which weighed heavily against my making the original purchase, but I would like to dispel any uncertainty regarding how robust it is. Firstly, as non-committal a way as this might be to start, I am not making any claims for all Casio A168s, bought from any retailer other than Amazon, but mine hasn't been taken off my wrist since I first purchased it, it has scraped walls and sustained direct impacts against all manner of surfaces including metal surfaces. I spent a solid 4 hours conducting mechanical repairs during which times it sustained several harsh direct impacts, and it looks just as new as the day I first got it.

Just throwing it out there. Consider it one solid vote for the A168 from one customer, who's experience may be several standard deviations away from the norm, but who nearly considered not getting it for all the negative reviews that are floating out there. Buy it, it's a great watch. and there is nothing wrong with the strap. It pinches some times but I got used to it.

Hello,
I strongly consider buying either a casio A168 or a B640. I would like to see what you all think (especially blueb4sunrise, say_jeeves and kcohS-G). How are your watches holding up so many years later (after this thread was originally posted)?
Which one of these should I purchase?
If neither, which alternatives would you recommend?
Many thanks in advance!;)

Considering thread is 5 years old chances of getting answer from these people are slim.
B640 is more advanced model and slightly bigger watch. A168 is variation of f91 and functionally/size are same (illuminator is electroluminescent blue on A168).
Pick whatever you fancy both are nice retro looking watches. Both are plastic cases (it looks like metal but it's plastic).
Rest is in specs list and your personal preference.
For everyday watch i would pick B640 due to better functionality. Just for fun and if you don't need much A168 is a fine and more affordable choice.

Thanks for the replies!
After spending some more time on this forum I was introduced to a Russian watchmaker 'Technochas'. They have some similar models in their lineup, but the watches have metal cases (Brass). That's a big benefit for me because I think the watch itself will last longer and will feel nicer to the touch.
Have you heard anything for this brand?
I've seen a few reviews on this forum and they're all quite positive:D.

I recently got a Casio A158, just got an A168 for the improved backlight. Great knock-around watches. An all stainless case would be nice, but then these would weigh more and cost more. I still have my dual-alarm all stainless Citizen digital from the mid 80s when I need "upscale" digital. It's still working like a champ.
