I was lucky enough to be able to obtain a brand new blue dial Panomatic Lunar recently. It's been a "grail" watch for me for some time, so it's been a thrill to get one on my wrist. I thought I would share some thoughts about it after a month of ownership (where it's barely left my wrist).

It's not too thick
I like thin watches. At 12.7mm thick, I worried that the Panomatic Lunar would be too thick for me. I was able to try one on at an AD once or twice and it didn't feel too thick, but I worried I was just convincing myself because I loved it so much. Happily, after a month of wearing it, I can say with certainty that it's not too thick. Have worn it with suits and it slides under a cuff well enough. It sits well on my wrist, feels comfortable and not too thick.

It's not too formal
I've also worn my Panomatic Lunar with shorts and a t-shirt and I thought it looked great. It's certainly not a GADA watch, and I wouldn't wear it to the beach or for yardwork, but the watch can work in many settings.

It's easy to read the time
Some other owners complained that they have struggled to read the time, because of the way that the time dial is overlayed over the small seconds dial. This has not been a problem for me, as the minute track is clearly printed over the small seconds dial. I've found it easy to read the time, even with just a quick glance at the watch.

The text on the dial is NOT distracting
For some reason, GO felt the need to label the moonphase and the big date. This was almost a deal killer for me, but thankfully, this text is MUCH less obvious in real life than it is in photos of the watch, and these extraneous and unnecessary words on the dial have ended up not bothering me at all. Phew.

The dial is mesmerizing
As with most watches, the dial is the star of the show, and that goes double for the Panomatic Lunar. The galvanized silver dial is stunning, rich and deep. The unusual layout really sings, and the different shades of blue as light hits the dial is easy to get lost in.

The big date is special. Maybe the best.
I can't think of another implementation of the big date complication that's done better than this one. So cool and about 1,000% better than those horrible cyclops.....

Buy into the German aesthetic!
Buying and owning a high end German watch is its own kind of experience. Everything from the elaborate box to the elaborate instructions, to the leather strap that feels like it won't bend at all (but now, after break in, feels great and like it'll last forever).

Love the German quality
The watch feels overbuilt and just so rock solid. It's impressive considering how elegant and fine the movement is. The watch has been running at +2.6spd since I got it, which is right up there with my very best mechanical watches.

But an important QC problem too
The fly in the ointment is that my brand new watch has a problem. I've had an intermittent problem setting the moon phase. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes not at all. And the moonphase does not seem to be functioning properly, as it's not cycling through a full moonphase over 28 or so days. I can't quite bring myself to contact GO and have to pack up the watch and send it away, but at some point I will need to do that. It's disappointing to get a brand new watch not functioning properly and hard to understand how their QC missed something like this, although the setting problem is intermittent.

So, as you can tell, I'm deep in my honeymoon phase with this great watch. I can certainly recommend it without any reservations. Hope some of these reflections are helpful or of interest to some of you. My thanks to all the members who have educated me over the years here on WUS. What a great forum for all of us afflcted with this strange obsession.....

It's a great watch, isn't it? I agree with nearly every point you make (except for the box being "elaborate." I think every watch I've ever owned has had a more elaborate box with more goodies inside. Seiko5 notwithstanding).

I've never bothered with setting the moonphase and based on your experience, I won't. Ignorance is bliss.

Oh right, the moon phase issue. Mine works fine. Sorry to hear about Warsh's problem.

Oh, when I first got it, I set the moon phase and I kept it on a winder because I didn't want to have to set the moon phase again and it was cool when the moon was out blah blah blah…..

Have to admit, I don't set the moon phase anymore.

And strangely enough, no one has ever asked me what phase the moon was in! If someone does, I might reconsider. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Glad you are enjoying it, very well written thoughts after wear time. One I hope to own at some point, even more after your write up!

I agree with all the original poster's points - I have the (slightly) older model without luminous hands but the same blue dial. Far more distinctive than the usual Panerai or Rolex, dress it up or down, love looking at the double swan neck regulator system. Like others, I don't bother setting the moon phase! GO is fantastic value.

I probably would have written pretty much the same review, and would have highlighted the same features as you have done (except without the QC issue - set my moonphase once and has been on my wrist or the winder ever since). And you managed to write a great review without even mentioning the view when you turn the watch over (saving that for your next review?)
The PML has been a bit of a gamechanger for me. It has reset all the parameters of what I thought my preferred watch style was, and it has widened my horizon to all sorts of other watches that I might have just glossed over before - asymmetric/panorama date/moonphase etc and brought so many more watches for me to look at and admire as part of this hobby.

Great looking watch. I am a huge fan of big dates and few companies do them well. From what I can see and what I have read, GO does seem to do them best. I've been somewhat leery about GO because they do seem thick and like you I enjoy somewhat thin watches. GO from pictures look very thick, especially for my seemingly thin wrist. Thanks for the write-up and I love that Blue. Get the moon issue resolved quickly so you can fully enjoy the lovely timepiece

The PML is quite thick, but it doesn't look it, which seems a strange thing to say. What I mean is that I never look at it and think it looks big, and I don't think others looking at it on my wrist think that either, but when you handle and inspect it, then it is chunky (even more so with the bracelet).
First impressions from a distance would suggest a delicate watch, but up close it is not. In any case, it fits under my shirt cuffs and that is all that really counts with me.

Somebody on here (and, I'm sorry, I can't remember for sure who it was, so I can't give them the credit they deserve) described it perfectly for me when they said - think of it as a tool watch and it's perfect, think of it as a dress watch and it's too thick.

Congratulations on obtaining your grail, or one of them. The first time I saw a photo of the watch, I was instantly smitten. May pull the trigger myself some day. As an amateur astronomer, I'm especially fond of the moon phase (though not GO's decision to label it as a moon phase) and would probably obsess about keeping it in sync with the actual moon phase.

Actually i believe it's the thickness of the PML that makes me like it.

I'm not a dress watch guy. I wear suits regularly but I wear sport watches.

Whenever I have owned a dress watch, when I wear a suit, and figure I should wear a dress watch, I still pass it over and grab my Batman or a speedy or whatever.

But the substantial presence of the PML has allowed it to stay in the collection and actually be worn.

Beautiful GO- One concern I have always had with the Pano is whether the smaller dial configuration for the hours and minutes makes it less legible than a "normal" dial. Do you think its any harder to read than your standard dial watches?

Not for me. It’s such a clean dial. Maybe with the darker dials it might be an issue.

And as I age, the panoramic date is worlds better than a regular tiny date window. I might get to the point of not setting the date on the worst offending watches in my collection.
