So after almost three years since I purchased my TT large, the timepiece now stops after winding almost immediately even when winding manually. It starts going for a bit no matter how many turns. For example, it gets going after 5 turns or so, and when I stop winding after 20 turns the watch stops as well.

I have now brought it in for warranty work and may take a month or so. Any similar occurrences for you guys for Cartier movements and have an idea what the issue may be?

Kind of disappointing for a watch with this caliber and price. No abuse or swimming done with Santos. Probably wore at least once a week.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

First I have heard of this too. I've had my large Santos for right at two years. No issue with it stopping after winding while wearing it. It does seem the power reserve isn't maxing out. I may not be fully winding it though. Otherwise it seems to be keeping good time. Curious how the warranty process goes...

Mine started off this way, power reserve not maxed out but I initially thought it was my desk job or watch winder till the watch dies at the end of the day. Now stops almost instantly.

You can tell just by looking at that smooth soft gold bezel that it hasn't been beat up, but Cartier only warrantees their watches for two years. You're going to have to pay someone to fix it (and I have a strong feeling that they will replace the entire movement and they'll have to get it from Cartier, and it will be expensive. It IS a beautiful watch, so it's probably worth the cost.

I've had two expensive quartz swiss watches (a Concord and a Daniel Mink) and they both stopped working after the warrantee period.

Swiss doesn't mean "no problems," although maybe it used to.

That really sucks!

As of November 12th 2019, all Cartier timepieces purchased from a Cartier boutique or Authorized Retailer can enjoy the complimentary extension of the International Limited Warranty for up to 8 years!
Did you miss the cut off date?
OP if you really did miss this date (it would have to be only be a month or two given what you said and your join date) I would push hard to have Cartier give you this extension. This should not be on you to pay out of pocket.

Definitely sucks when things like this happen but it can happen with a watch 10x the price .. it happens unfortunately.

Cartier seems to have some of the best after sales service in the industry from what I’ve read (fortunately no need to derive my Santos); I’d be surprised they don’t make it right even if you’re out of warranty.

Maybe go through your AD or Boutique you bought it through directly to push on your behalf too.

I just sent in my Santos de Cartier Medium for service yesterday. Bought it in Nov 2021 and only wears it on weekends every 2 weeks as rotation. Recently my watch occasionally stops even when I was wearing it. Initially looks random and I thought just not enough wind, but it happened more frequently and sometimes it just stop after I took the watch off and placed it crown up.

I have many automatic watch and even my Halios Seaforth with Selita 200 runs well and accurately only with few winds and wearing it on my wrist. Something is definitely not right and I sent it in. Will update in few weeks when it’s back.

interestingly Cartier also replaced my Tank Must Solar Beat (bought in Dec) s it just stops working totally. They could not find any cause and decided to replace it with new one. Just collected yesterday as I sent in my Santos. oh well, my first 2 Cartier…just not my luck.

hope yours get fixed soon.

I actually purchased it around August of 2019 and had the opportunity to extend the warranty to eight years online after the word came out with this option. Boutique provided me an estimate of $550 to fix the Santos but I courteously said that I would not pay for a warranty issue. The asked for me text a picture of the warranty booklet/stamp. I will keep you guys posted.

Same symptoms for me as I initially thought I was not moving enough while working till it won't "tick" anymore.

I have mine in a watch winder when not using, do you?

Yep, my daughter has a "fashion" Swiss made automatic watch (Burberry) which she does tosses around for the last eight years or so. Still accurate as my Omega.

So the boutique rep called me today and the watchmaker said that the "plate" broke and is not covered by warranty as the watch was dropped or something. Obviously, I did not drop the watch as it does not have any cosmetic damage. Frustrated right now with Cartier.

Time to play hard ball.

In my opinion give them two options.

1. Resolve the issue FOC as a gesture of goodwill

OR

2. Return the watch so I you get it independently inspected by a third party, with a view to pursuing the matter on the basis of that outcome!
