So I'm considering an Explorer or OP from Rolex, and my ideal size is about 39mm on my 6.5 inch wrist.

I'd like to pick up a relatively inexpensive watch in 36 just to see if I can warm up to the smaller size. It would be even better if it was styled similar to the explorer, but it's the size I'm really evaluating.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I know there are 39mm Explorers in the secondary market, but I'd prefer something new from an AD, and the vintage size is intriguing to me.

Thanks in advance!

Were I curious, I'd get an homage version to try it out, probably either Pagani Design or San Martin.

I got a SM Explorer homage for the mrs-ish - she loves it, and I'm impressed with the quality.

A PD would be half the price, but I expect quality would be adequate.

Easy. Nomos Club Sport Neomatik. It's a dynamite watch in the size you like with a bracelet that's not too different (style, proportions) from the Explorer's bracelet. The case is 37mm with a slim profile and practical water resistance. This watch would be a keeper to have alongside your Rolex. Only difficult part of the choice is whether the blue or the "petrol" dial is better :)

i'm thinking along the same lines -- waste as little money for this experiment.

Look at Armida watches (very well built, micro brand been around for a while, made in Hong Kong) -- A6 model. It might not be the cheapest option, I'm afraid
Tissel Explorer -- uses Miyota 9015 movement TISELL 9015 Explorer 36 mm | Tisell Watch

My favorite 36mm so far that’s not a straight up copy of a Rolex explorer.

I've looked at this model many times ask I'm intrigued, good call. Just can't decide if I'd like the textured dial, wish they offered it with a simple matt black dial. Proportions and such are really nice.

The dial texture makes the watch, imo. It makes it stand out from all the other homages of the 1016, i.e. smiths Everest or San Martin SN021.

I say some of the vintage ones will do.

Honestly better than a Rolex, without the baggage.
