Yeah I really don't get the pricing lately of some offerings from Oris and Longines (and similar tier)... easy other selections to make.

why would anyone want to rotate that bezel?
To use it to set the marking triangle?

The watch is not my cup of tea and I find it a shame that apparently only retro models are still coming on the market…

Almost bought that one. But the brightly polished case (can't tell in that pic but in person it really is) and the date turned me off. That one was pricey as well.

The shiny case seemed inappropriate for a re-issue of a military watch. The date inside the sub dial is a design fail.

If Longines had kept the cathedral hands and the script Longines logo along with the matte dial and no date in the new version it would be perfect.

I wonder if they’re including the crown guards in the 43mm. Also, there was the Longines Heritage 1935, released a couple/few years ago - another Czech pilot’s watch, 41mm x 14mm tall

Just when I don't need to buy another watch, this comes along. 43mm (a bit large but it's supposed to wear smaller), Chronometer Certified automatic movement with 72 hours of power reserve, matte black dial, small seconds subdial, cushion-style case, Old Radium Super-Luminova, rotating fluted bezel with pip timer, and some serious vintage style. $3,850 isn't cheap, but dang. I'm in love. It's not even a limited edition.

I’m with you! When I saw it on the email, I thought it looks stunning too.

A while back I considered the Eterna reissue but just couldn’t because of too much polish on the case…too shiny. That stopped me wondering about the date!

This is also so much better than the previous reissue Longines did…like the case, hands, subdial position and no date.

I agree on all counts

As you can see though, that's exactly how the original was finished. The brushing is a anachronism; a nod to modern mores, although this new watch really isn't a "reissue" of the original at all, just a loose re-imagination:

I think I like this one better with the polished case and with the date. Nice.
At least they put a black band on it.

My guess, this model will not sell at MSRP. Wait 6 months and see were the market sets the price. Nice Watch though. Vance.

Thank you for the insight.

But the 2014 Longines remake was super blingy when I handled it at a department store- way shinier than the pictures of the original (albeit, maybe the original shine of those have worn off over time).

Be that as it may, it was too shiny for me and the date in the sub-dial was the ultimate deal breaker.

It does seem a bit expensive. But I wonder. Is the response that it is too expensive a reaction based on the actual watch itself, the movement, finishing etc. Or is it just an assessment of "whatever the actual watch is, that is expensive for a Longines". Because if this was an IWC with the same specs I suspect the consensus would have been that it was well priced.

Longines is upping their game this year…

. . .

This is the (40mm) original. Not only is the case shape completely different, and the size, but so are almost all of the details. Quite a departure from Longines's recent form.

Agreed. This new version is kind of a mash-up between the Eterna, Lemania, & Longines versions w/hour & minute hands & straighter lugs from the Eterna & Lemania versions & small seconds & bezel from the Longines (+ crown guards from some dive watch?). They should have just done an updated date-less version of the Heritage 1935 w/working bezel or maybe this is it.
