Hey chaps, I thought I would share a quick overview of 6 months with this citizen

I recently took it on a trip through sth America including some trekking in Patagonia and diving in Mexico where I wore it every day for more than a month.

Now I’m back into the normal pattern of life and this is used on very hot weekends or when going anywhere near water.

Pros

  • love the size, weight and muted blue
  • Love the big block hour hands
  • Personal connection as the original challenge diver was found on the beach close to where I grew up
  • Can wear overseas anywhere without worry about it’s value it getting lost stolen etc.

Cons

  • not huge on Mercedes hands but I have stopped noticing them now as I think they blend into the overall watch design now and globally this looks nothing like a homage to my eye
  • Bracelet it pretty chunky with the male end links but I never like bracelets

I think this will stay long term as the true beater. If I end up getting another diver I think I’ll hold off for a pelagos 39 blue or blancpain bathyscathe

“What are your thoughts on this model?”

I like mine, nice throwback to some Citizen classic heritage.

Mine has been off for repair for about a month now, but I should be getting it back sometime next week; it was running fast, just a little over spec. But I really like the vintage design of the watch and I think it offers incredible value for the price - better value than most Seikos and Swiss at this price point. It disappears on the wrist with an Erika’s Originals strap because it is so lightweight

I'm considering purchasing the oem rubber strap that comes with the black version,
any thoughts from owners?
I like it very much from pictures, and think it'll be perfect for my watch, but the majority of owner's pics I'm seeing is beginning to give me pause,
I can rarely find a wrist-shot where it hasn't been promptly substituted

To be fair, Citizen has been using those style of hands for years. I have some early 1980's Citizen quartz divers and they have them. I think this type of hand set makes it easier to quickly read in all types of light.

What king of time specs was it keeping and where did you send it? Like that strap colour way. I think a grey nato with titanium hardware would be perfect but not finding any great options!

Can’t help you my man, I got the the bracelet version but wouldn’t mind that rubber strap in another colour. I don’t need black, I mean unless I wear this watch to a funeral

The longer I have it the less I notice/care about the Mercedes hands. I went on a dive in Mexico and the hands vs the block hour hands were supremely legible.

Spec for this movement is up to +20 seconds per day, and sometimes mine would get +23 per day; I know it’s only 3 seconds over, but there is no reason for a watch at this price to perform outside of 10 seconds per day. I sent it to Citizen’s repair center in Torrance, CA.
The hardware on the Erika’s strap is steel and the difference is not very noticeable; I think any strap with brushed or sand blasted hardware will work well

thanks,
.. I'm fervently hoping to outlive it, so, longevity isn't my primary concern,
it's that, despite always going for the funereal-look, I'm actually pretty active,
and seeing so many watches that did come on it being worn on anything but,
has got me thinking that it may not be that comfortable or practical while wearability is still a concern

to anyone who got it on strap, I'd be grateful to read opinions on it

I'm going to second your con on the Mercedes hand. I know there is debate as to where the design came from but before watches I came from the car world so all I see is a Mercedes logo when I see that hand.

I know this thread is old and hopefully someone will see this. I had one on order and went to a local shop to see it in person. I was impressed with everything except the crown. I don’t mind the size of it but the actually crown feel when trying to screw it back in did not inspire confidence. I felt like I could get it to grab the threads easily and feared cross threading. I have owned way too many screw down crown watches to count so I like to think I know how to use them.

Did anyone else (OP?) ever notice this issue? I love everything else about this watch. I wish it was eco drive but I’m ok with it as an auto. I was shocked at how premium the dial looked in person.

Seriously contemplating one of these in blue. Now that you are a 'long term' owner, I am keen to know your thoughts on the crown in terms of size and operation. Is it the problem that some make out? I have vintage watches with smaller crowns. I've never found it a drama really. Thanks.
