That's a refresh of the old 1300 all right. They replaced 2 of the circles (1 second and 10 second indicators) with bars and turned the 3rd one (minutes indicator) into more of a square.
Looking at the manual, it looks like the rest of the functionality is identical to the 1300. It's basically the old watch with a new LCD and faceplate.

A welcome update, and one that's definitely going to end up in my collection as soon as I can get my hands on it.

EDIT : on the other hand ... I just noticed that black area near the top left corner, and it does bother me quite a lot. WTF Casio?

That should not be there. Bad PR photo I would say.

I completely missed the "1/20" discussion yesterday, and failed to notice it on the product page as well because I went straight to the spec sheet.
I think they indeed only refer to the top bar. It's pretty much the exact same functionality as the 1300, they simply re-arranged the segments of the circles and turned them into bars.
That top bar is going to fill up from left to right in the first half of every second, and then empty out from left to right during the second half. So yeah, 20 steps per second. Pretty useless though, it's just a visual gimmick.

@Viper45 : I think it's not just a bad PR photo. All 3 variants have the exact same issue, and you can even see the difference in the shape of the faceplate and the progress bar throughout the manual. I think that unused corner just looked too weird, and they added a black part on the LCD to mask the issue. I wouldn't be surprised if the watch actually looks like that once it becomes available.

Another thing that now bothers me is that it has the "WR100M" text on the top of the faceplate ... and a "WR" logo on the bottom as well. That's nothing that can't be sorted out with some goo-gone and q-tips, but it shouldn't be happening in the first place.

Casio has been notorious for having too much text on their watches and they don't seem to care what people think of it. Mentioning the simple fact that the watch is water resistant twice on the face plate alone is overkill.

Re arranging the useless second counters into bars has certainly freed up space for larger digits for the time data but I agree it should have been done keeping the faceplate in mind. If the actual watch comes out like this, it would be a big blunder.

It's not perfect but it certainly is an improvement over the 1300 where you can read the day/date only with a magnifying glass.

I noticed you can already buy it on Casio's US site. That sent me looking for for photos or videos of the WS-1600H.

I ended up coming across this Reddit thread.

Looks like that black area is for real. I'll stick to the 1300 for now.
