IMO, the larger reverso can be worn more casual, especially with a brown strap, its size removing some of the dress watch element.
I agree with this. I think the the dial on the Classic gives it more ability to be a little more casual with a less dressy strap versus something like the Tribute which I think has no room to move past dressy.

My "casual" is still a button down and jeans, so I feel like the Reverso Classic on a brown strap would work no problem. If you enjoy wearing it with a t-shirt, go for it. Most aren't going to notice, so there's not really a "faux pas" to worry about anyway.

I am Panerai heavy in my collection, and my Reverso sits nicely in there with them.

I will baby mine as it is the scratch magnet to end all scratch magnets 😳

So it gets worn on special occasions, but matching to clothes 🤔

Any really, I’m never in a suit now I’m retired but I will wear it whenever the occasion occurs that I feel it’s not gonna get banged up, it could probably take it (Polo history and all that) but I hate scratches.

And today I’m wearing this…

But this is going on very soon for this evenings drinks at the bar.

The Hawaiian shirt and shorts will stay on 😂

To say the Reverso is still a sports watch would be like calling the Santos a pilot's watch. Sure, those were their origins. But trends change and these pieces are no longer society's prevailing choices for those purposes, rather worn as a testimony of the innovation, historical style, etc. How many times have you seen someone playing football/rugby/baseball with a Reverso or an airline pilot wearing a Santos?

That said, both pieces can lean casual or formal depending on the strap and attire.

The Reverso is a sports watch. That’s what it was designed for. To suggest otherwise is to spit in the faces of César de Trey, Jacques-David LeCoultre, and René-Alfred Chauvot.

In a true “dress” situation, which is to say white tie, one does not wear a watch (how gouche). Black tie calls for a Submariner on NATO, to show you mean business. Business calls for anything solid gold to assert your dominance.

That’s it; that’s the list. Everything else is just a watch, to be worn, or not, at the owner’s discretion.

Well, I am wearing my Reverso with shorts and a tshirt. And I think it looks perfectly fine. So wear what you like!

I have been looking at reversos for quite some time, and they really appeal to me. I'm OWG with a pam233 currently, and wondering if maybe a reverso would make a good duo. The reference I'm looking at is the reverso classique 250.8.86. These watches are very different, but is that such a bad thing... I'm a Jeans and t-shirt kind of guy, very casual. Are there any reverso owners here that rocks their watches with casual clothing?

This is the only reason I hesitate, thinking it may be a to formal watch to wear when you're dressed the way I do. What's your opinion on the Jaeger Le-Coultre Reverso? Would it be a weird duo with the pam?

Reverso was supposedly designed to be worn during a polo match

To me its a casual night out watch but not a watch I would wear doing things I would with my Rolex SD.
I wear my Rolex through anything and I wouldn't do the same with the JLC.
Its a beautiful watch if you have something else to wear when you wanna do yard work, go camping etc with

Been through similar struggles and done that.
I say dont worry and just get it. If it looks good on you and you are happy with it, the go for it.

when it comes to formal and sport, eventually line gets blurred enough. No one wears penguin tux with top hat anymore, and wearing a suit with a t shirt, apple watch and jordans are becoming and acceptable formailty these days.
In this sense, the opposite should be true, given a reverso, like rolex djs, are dressier pieces with sports watch origins

I do think that some Reversos are more dressy than others. I view the the steel version with the Ostrich Strap strap that you are looking at as more of a casual watch. A Pink Gold Tourbillon or Minute Repeater would be another story. 😀

Here is my “casual” Reverso:

A steel watch can be worn with anything. A PM watch can be worn with anything. Why do you feel there are some rules to when you can wear a certain watch? If I am wearing a solid gold Day Date with shorts and a polo shirt, a drink in my hand while I work the BBQ, am I violating some code of style, or am I just living my life in luxury style? Just put the watch on and get on with living your life in luxury style.

As above posts, it is more versatile than just a dress watch. Without a worry, get it. Wear it. Enjoy it 😊

This was me Reverso shopping. Same non-winter, non-work style clothes I would wear it with most of the time. I ended up with the Santos though as I thought a 100m WR scratchmagnet was more appropriate for my lifestyle and work.

All one has to do is look at pictures of their grand or great grandparents and see the watch they were wearing was their GADA and it was not till the diver watch craze took hold that things changed I say wear the watch you like with the attire you want but I will not wear tennis shoes with a suit while having a G- Shock on my wrist totally wrong in so many ways.

We’ve also exagerrated things a bit. The Reverso was invented “for” polo but the origin came out of an amateur match where one player broke their watch and suggested the idea of a polo-proof watch. The line to the Reverso starts at polo but I don’t know if it ever curved back, really. “Inspired by sport” is probably a better way of describing the Reverso than as a sport watch.

wrt the original Santos-Dumont style watches I think it’s also worth noting that Santos-Dumont and Cartier already knew each other and ASD was a pretty dapper guy generally. The ergonomics of the original wristwatch come from the wrist part more than the watch—it’s definitely styled in a way later, more utilitarian pilots’ watches aren’t. It’s a watch for a pilot more than a pilot’s watch.
