Dear WUS members.

I'm looking to buy a Cartier Santos white dial, but I'm unsure about the size - medium or large.

I only had a chance to try on the large in my local Cartier boutique. They didn't have the medium.

My wrist is 18.5cm/7.3inch.

Anyone have the same circumference and would like to share their opinion would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 7.5” flat wide wrist, and happily wear 47mil Panerai, so for me buying a medium case is not the norm.

However when I started to look at square and rectangular watches that all changed, and the large size Reverso was too big for me, the midsize is perfect.

You need to try on the medium before making your decision, they wear differently to round watches.

Large for your wrist size, IMHO.

I have a 17.1cm/6.75" wrist and the large Santos works just fine for me.

The medium looks bigger in images, but after being able to try both on, I went with the large and am VERY glad I choose that size.

Good luck with your decision.

Thank you, Nokie.

What about the date function on the large? Do you feel it takes away from the overall clean appearance of the dial?

To each his own but I own and prefer the large. My wrist is 7.3". It is definitely not too big and I wanted it to wear like my other watches which probably average ~41mm. I like the size of them and wanted my Santos to fit similarly.

I could get away with medium just fine but I don't subscribe to the notion that a brand is "meant" to wear small for any reason, certainly not because Ali or Warhol wore them that way in the 50s/60s.

I prefer date as well. Here is a pretty close-up perspective.

Large for me, as well (7.5-inch wrist):

Granted, this is more of a glamour shot than a "look how great it fits me" shot. In your case, the only way to know for sure, though, is to try on both.

The large is also a stylistic choice, not one that is merely limited to physical wrist size.
Modern Cartier is perfectly fine with people who want to wear big watches and want to accommodate this.

I have a 7.25 inch wrist and had both, kept the medium.

Initially thought that large was a perfect size but after a year or so, I realized it was too big. I honestly think also considering the original design, large will only look proper somewhat for 8 inch wrists and above.

I have the large, my wife the medium. With the large I would prefer it if the date was removed. View attachment 18225074
That's my problem.
I am debating picking one up (my wrist is 6.8 in) and like the large but really don't like the date on it so I may go medium

Fretted over the size question for days: and three trips to the dealer. I've a 7" wrist that's pretty flat. I felt I was right on the line for each of the sizes. I chose the large and am very happy these days about the choice: though I've had a few doubts along the way. To my eyes, on my wrist, the medium just wears a little too delicate; the large wears like a larger watch--like a 42mm GP Laureato, not like a large Pan or the Bulgari Octo Finissimo--that I find works for me as a great sports and every day watch with shorts and jeans. It's not my first choice for a dress watch, though my tastes run to classic simple watches on straps for dress.

I don't accept that Cartier's work best on everyone in smaller sizes. Cartier's current designers certainly don't think that's the case with the Pasha, the large Santos and the large Tank Francaise.

(I, if it matters, am not drawn specifically to large watches. Along with the Cartier, I wear watches of 36, 38.5, 39, 40, 41 and 42 mm.)

Large gets my vote! At under 40mm, the large ain't that large!
