seeing some similarities here... no?

i already have the spb241, wondering if the conquest would make a nice addition or to outright replace the spb241 with the conquest... thoughts?

on aesthetics, i cant decide, they;re both lovely. the conquest does have a richer color to the dial.

The Longines, because it has a reliable movement. This one is really a case of what's behind the dial. And you can't even compare the bracelets.
But one thing I'm not sure of is how good the lume is on Longines watches made over the past 3-4 years. If it's at the base line of something like BGW9, then that's great. At the very least, you know the Seiko is going to glow nicely.

its only sort of a question of choice.. as i already own the seiko spb241.
(i thought these were non limited models.. but googling shows there're sparse out in the wild... wtf? im holding on to mine. )
question was add the longines, or move on the seiko for th elonginess or have both?

im on a bit of a non rotating bezel gada bender...

I won’t parrot the herd mentality anti-Seiko sniping but in this case, Longines all the way. The Longines has a superior movement. More importantly, I prefer the look of the Conquest.

They’re both aesthetically pleasing and there could be room for both in your collection.
Longines upped their game with the new Conquest. I’m not too fussy about bracelets but female end links on a H-link hits the sweet spot.

I'm by no means impartial, but between these two I'd most likely go for the Longines - looks more polished overall. What's the price difference? They look like they're playing at different levels, so to speak.

The Seiko is nice, but the Longines is on a higher level. I agree they are probably redundant, but if I were to pick one it would easily be the Longines.

msrp.. 750 vs 2k.
realistically at current market prices 600 vs 1.5k.
so thats 1k the difference.

question is keep the spb241 (with its fanciful Alpinist story heritage).... along with the Conquest. Im thinking the Conquest in a different colorway... Nomos CLub sport has caught my eye and the Tabac color is real nice.

The only thing I see similar between these two watches is that they tell the time and date.

Yes, the Conquest would make a nice addition. The Conquest is only an outright replacement of the SPB241 if you make it so.

All the best in making your decision when it comes to the aesthetics between these two watches.

The 1959 Alpinist Re creation is a Seiko SJE085, pictured below. it's a beautiful 36mm watch with the 6L35 movement, and was limited to 1959 units. The modern re -interpretation, or SPB241 is what you have pictured, and it is a 38 mm watch with a 6r35 movement. I would skip the Longines and add the re - creation SJE085. Or add one of the many beautiful Grand Seiko watches. My .02.

Keep the Alpinist for regular wear, add the Longines as a dressier option.

Even the gold dial is different enough, but I would be tempted hard by blue or green.

Turn on: 10.9mm thickness, a full 2mm thinner than the Seiko.
Turn off: 19mm lug width, and butterfly clasp bracelet.

I did this mental math before, but with the previous generation Conquest. I picked up the grey SPB243 and the previous generation Conquest 39 mm at around the same time. The SPB243 ran +25 SPD and my Conquest to this day runs +3 SPD (1+ year of regular wear). I've demagnetized the SPB243, and nothing changed. It's been gone for months and I don't regret the sale. If you're aiming for a smaller collection, then there's a lot of overlap (in use case) between the two, and I can see the Longines staying. And for the poster above, the SPB241/243 also has 19 mm lugs and it has a bracelet with only 2 micro adjusts.

Too different to compare however the Longines will have the best eta has to offer in a movement by far exceeding Seiko and quickly approaching GS autos. Not a fan of the Seiko dial but there are nicer Swiss watches with very similar looks. The Longines just looks more refined overall.
