Hi everyone,

A year and a few months ago I got an amazing opportunity to move up in my field to Director level and I jumped on it. About a month ago I was asked if I was interested in joining a group of people that travel sometimes to assist with opening new facilities for my company and I accepted. I just came back from my first trip yesterday and want to buy a GMT watch to remember the first trip.

While I was there, I visited a local AD and put my name down for a blue/blk bezel rolex gmt but it'll be About 3 years and I want to get something in the meantime.

I really like the spirit Zulu from longines with green bezel. Looked at white dial tudor gmt.
What are some other cool gmt watches under 4k pre-owned?

If you are not opposed to Quartz, Grand Seiko SBGN003 (Black) or SBGN005 (Blue). This was my go to travel watch back when I traveled often. Well under $4K pre owned, crazy accurate (mine was +/- 0 sec over 7 months), always ready to go in the watch box, and you won’t have to worry about possibly having to fork out money for a service while you wait on the GMT Master.

That's a good looking watch. I'm looking for something with an automatic movement. I just actually came across aquaterra gmt. Will be looking into those.

Staying in the GS mode, the Spring Drive Sport GMT is very sharp and the sapphire bezel is nice. Used for less than 3500. View attachment 18389355
This one I like. I actually looked at it a few times online. I don't own any GS watches and I think if I buy one, it'll be one of the 4 seasons...most likely the one with pinkish hue to it.

Spirit Zulu is a killer watch, maybe the best Longines currently in production. If you want something off the beaten path, I think Ball's Engineer III Outlier is a really cool watch. The size is a lot more wearable than you might expect, it's actually thinner than Grand Seiko's GMT sports watches despite needing clearance for Tritium tubes because their in-house Cal 7337C is surprisingly thin for a traveler GMT movement.

Congrats on the promotion and welcome to WUS. Breitling's Chronomat GMT comes in a a 40mm and is right around $4k new on C24.

These are Sellita callers right? I like some of Breitling's new designs, but the asking prices for off-the-shelf Sellita calibers is basically a slap in the face. Breitling thinks you're stupid.

I was more focused on the aesthetics and brand but it is a Sellita caller, chronometer.

It's a good looking watch and I like the bracelet. The 42mm comes with the B01, I believe. That's what I'd consider.

If you like the Rolex GMT-II Batman, how about the Grand Seiko SBGJ237? You might be able to find one pre-owned for around $4k.

I also would like to have the GMT-II Batman, but I refuse to play the Rolex AD game or pay an extra $8k for a used one, so I'll probably never own it. I did pick up the SBGJ275 (same as SBGJ237 except dial color) recently and really enjoy it. It pretty much scratched the Batman itch for me.

I guess your point is that Breitling should charge less for a watch with a Sellita movement. I believe the current Breitling Caliber 32 is the movement in the Chronomat 40mm GMT and that movement is an ETA based 2393-2 movement. Either Sellita or ETA, may be a COSC certified movement. But I suppose at the MSRP $6150 USD the watch should have a greater power reserve than 42 hours and should have anti magnetic components and the watch should have a higher grade of materials on the dials and indices as well as possible bracelet improvements.

Hi Horonut,

Congratulations on your new role and your first successful trip! It sounds like an exciting opportunity, and getting a GMT watch to commemorate it is a fantastic idea.
Since you're looking for a cool GMT watch under $4K pre-owned, here are my suggestions:

  1. Longines Spirit Zulu Time - As you mentioned, the green bezel version is a great choice. Longines is known for its quality and heritage, and the Spirit Zulu Time is no exception.
  2. Tudor Black Bay GMT - The white dial version you looked at is a solid option. Tudor offers excellent value, robust build quality, and a stylish design.
  3. Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT - While you might need to shop around to find one under $4K pre-owned, it's a fantastic watch with a lot of presence and functionality.
  4. Grand Seiko SBGM221 - Known for its impeccable finishing and craftsmanship, the Grand Seiko GMT is a beautiful option with a classic look.
  5. Oris Aquis GMT - Oris offers great bang for your buck, and the Aquis GMT combines robust diving capabilities with GMT functionality.
  6. Montblanc 1858 Geosphere - If you're looking for something a bit different, the Geosphere has a unique design with dual hemisphere world time displays.
  7. Breitling Avenger II GMT - Another sturdy and stylish option, Breitling's Avenger II GMT offers a bold look and reliable performance.
  8. Sinn 857 UTC - Sinn is known for its tough, no-nonsense tool watches, and the 857 UTC is a fantastic GMT option with a utilitarian design.
Good luck with your search! Let us know what you decide on, and enjoy your travels!

The opaline dial Tudor would get my vote. Eggshell Grand Seiko in this thread is also a stunner. Congrats by the way!

It's an SW330. ETA doesn't make 2893s anymore, nor do they sell them commercially to brands outside Swatch. It's actually extra pathetic that Breitling isn't even bothering to use the new SW330-2, which has a longer mainspring and 56 hour power reserve.

Formex is using that exact same COSC SW330 (theirs is the -2) in the $2,100 Reef GMT. If the argument is Breitling steel costs $4,000 more than Formex steel - yeah I don't buy it. What I see there is a Gigaton of profit margin for Breitling. They make Tag Heuer prices look reasonable.

Christopher Ward makes some very nice GMT watches that wont break the budget while waiting on your more expensive GMT.

For just some total fun and a great look, Seiko's GMT 5 series is pretty cool.
