Hi members,

As all here I am trying to figure it out how to build a perfect "box" for the years ahead. In the evenings quite often instead of smt new I watch "watch-reviews" and maybe a bit too much o_O. This is not alright to be honest 😊, but we are where we are.
I have tried OP 41 and actually surprised how well it sits. Better than Explorer. Clasp is smaller, the watch is very smooth, while Explo felt a bit sharper more like "square" when I moved to the clasp, so it's loosing that "butter feeling" when you try to finish your thoughts and clasp it's the last thing you are looking at. Or is it very objective and my observation is wrong?
In Explo the crown and letters on the dial are written like "ROLEX", while in OP it's "rolex". The last one is more attractive to my eyes. Other than that Explo is a professional model with excellent visibility and comfort. It feels more prestigious, but I am not sure.
What do you think about OP 41 with a black dial?
Which one do you think fit collection better?

In Youtube a lot of bloggers are saying that 39mm Explo was a proper one and though 40mm is good, but it's not perfect.
I found another reviews where people have Sub & Explo and they were making comparison. In the end they said Sub all the way and my Explo has to be sold. Is it true that to get a proper Rolex you have to get Sub?
Obviously it costs more and harder to get. I have dive watches and to get another dive...? No logic here..
For the future I am also looking at Cartier Santos med - YouTuber's just caught me here , and might be used X33. Although me and Cartier... it's like a man who used to drive tractor were asked to drive Rolls-Royce that's how I feel myself.
It's also funny when Rolex Explo is considered a "field watch" with that amount of gloss/polishing and all watch-youtubers were saying it's a perfect one watch "under the radar watch" with "ROLEX" on the dial.

All my watches are black mainly. I used to have blue Citizen, green, another green and ended up selling all of them. I don't like when the watch is "flashy", but when all black your collection is boring, isn't it?
I don't want to buy smt new and do not use it or even worse sell it. It's a pain in the ** to sell expensive stuff.

Overall, what do you think/could advise?

I would try one on and decide if it’s right for you than trying to establish a decision from online input.šŸ‘

It's hard to argue that a 3 hand, black dial, GADA sports watch wouldn't fit into ANY box, and I'm sure this is no exception. My personal problem with this sort of watch is that while the Explorer 36 would probably be the most desirable Rolex to me, I just never keep interest in a simple 3 hander for very long. Allocating that much of my total watch budget to that just doesn't make sense for me when I could have any number of chronos, GMT's, etc with a lot more personality that I'd rather have. Doesn't mean there's no room for an everyday black dial watch, but I think I could be plenty happy with one for $600-$1200 as I would be with the Rolex for many times more.

1. There’s the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words? I think showing a picture of your watch box would be easier than listing out each watch you own.

2. I find your question strange. What constitutes if something is appropriate/suitable for your collection? Some of us say go for a variety: dress, diver, chrono, etc. Others double down on collecting ONLY/MAJORITY of X watches; i.e. divers. You also have those who only collect a specific model, speedy collectors.

It depends when what it is you want, so it’s difficult to answer your question.

I would like to ask members for help. Do you think Rolex Explorer 40mm will fit my box well?
I have Seamasters ( PO 2nd, 300 1st, 300 3rd gen), Speedmaster, 2 Hamiltons (Khaki manual and auto), Seiko diver watch, Citizen Promaster diver..

Watches are individuals. The perfect ā€˜collection’ is not really a thing.

I'm not sure I relate to the philosophy behind the question, my friend. I'm an "if I like it, I buy it" kind of a person. I don't usually consider any purchases in relation to other watches I have.

That said, an Explorer is a classic watch. It's hard to go wrong with any of the variants they offer in that line.

I would try to get away from any influence on this choice. Too long lasting and important.

Youtube has ulterior motives and this forum has personnel tastes.

I would do what it takes to go see the watches in person. Even if it meant an airline flight.

As one of the most vanilla, default watches out there, it will likely fit into any collection.

We’re calling it Explo now?

That’s more stupid than calling it soda pop/superhero/Muppet/coffee retailer name!
How dare you impugn my Kermit Starbucks venti latte Green Lantern!
