I wanted a field style watch to bash around the garden instead of scratching my other (more expensive) watches. I wanted a field watch that actually looked like a (Vietnam era) field watch, not one where someone takes a watch into the field and says it's a field watch (pet peeve). Anyhoo came across ratio, the Ratio Quest (Lewis and Clarke edition) to be precise.
It arrived and I am well pleased. The only correction I need to make to my earlier advice is that the crown is not screw-in, it's push / pull, a small difference, but still 100m WR. Ratio did sent a gneric manaual that was relevant to their dive and chronograph watches, not to this one (not that it takes Einsten to figure out what's going on). Strap is nice with plenty of adjustment holdes. Here's a real world pic, looks good and does what it says on the tin all for US$50-ish:

Just as a matter of interest, what sort of time does a mechanical watch from 1919 keep?
Crown sticks out a bit, is that as it should be?
But, and regardless, what a fantastic 'real' field watch.
Crown has a gasket that rests against the machined end of the tube from the case. It's the "1919 way" of water resistance . Keeps good time like within "about" a minute or 2 a day. When new I'm sure it kept better time .
