I just got a veloci t auto chronograph (c01.211 movement) and I noticed that the second hand sweeps very smoothly. This impressed me because this particular movement beats at 21,600 bph. I can honestly say it is a smoother sweep than my seagull which beats at 28,800. Are there factors at play other than the beat rate when it comes to the sweep? Has anyone else noticed a smoother sweep on a lower beat rate watch?

The Tissot Luxury Powermatic 80 movement is set to 3Hz, but I only notice a reduction in "smoothness" when I place it side-by-side with watches running at 4Hz. My Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean cal. 8500 is actually a 3.5 Hz watch (lots of the 3 hand coaxials are) and I barely notice a reduction in smoothness, even when side-by-side with 4Hz watches, as its 7 ticks per sec, as opposed to 8....

You probably don't notice the 'tick' because of the small seconds but it can definitely be seen on the Powermatic 80 movements which have much larger second hands and also run at 21,600 BPM. The 'tick', while slight and nothing like that of a quartz, is more noticeable than a movement running at 28,800 BPM

I perceive the slight tick on the chronograph seconds hand but it's not bad at all, i'm more used to quartz anyway as this is my first automatic and I am impressed by how good it is for the price.

On the tiny running seconds hand I cannot notice it at all, because of the size obviously.

I think some of it may have to do with how thick the second hand is. It's pretty thick on this watch.

Sticky- that might be why. Sw500 is a pretty well built movement that probably has tighter tolerances than my seagull(Chinese). I might be seeing some gear lash on the seagull.
