I really don't know what the actual relationship between the two is but I suspect they are managed separately.. Seiko has distribution across Australia and New Zealand and yet no distribution of Orient.. I would have thought that if they were being operated as one then Orient would also be available to those of us in New Zealand and Australia.. JMHO

Yeah g'day,

I contacted Orient HQ concerning servicing for my watch and their available in AU/NZ and was advised that they have at this stage no intention to open a point of sale/distribution in Australia.
Also asked about buying online and just regular warning about warranties, fakes, etc.

They didn't answer my question about the service issues and I will just send it to the Seiko service centre here.

Cheers,

Todd

This was explained to me on WUS about a year ago. I did not realize how large the Seiko Group was. Seiko and Orient are both owned by the Seiko group, a massive conglomerate that consists of three primary companies, Seiko Holdings, Seiko Instruments, and Seiko Epson. Seiko Holdings owns Seiko watches. Seiko Epson (probably most well known for Epson printers) owns Orient watches.

Yeah. That's the explanation I heard about the relationship between Seiko and Orient.

As for Orient having it's own sub-forum, that stems from Orient USA once being a sponsor of this forum, which warranted its own sub-forum. And once they pulled their sponsorship, it would have been more work to merge it with the Seiko/Citizen sub-forum. So it just got moved.

I suspected it might just be a remnant of something from when the forum was younger, but the other explanation makes a lot of sense. I wasn't sure what the heck Seiko Epson was... I definitely prefer their watches to their printers!

Good point! Never thought about the overlord Swatch group and everyone that they own. Originally I just thought it was strange that Seiko and Citizen were lumped together but Orient was on its own, but the explanations everyone had make it pretty clear why this is the case.

Different companies.....Orient once had a forum due to sponsorship. It probably keeps one now, because it receives plenty of traffic by itself from the Orient faithful and the new-to-mechanical watch crowd

Seiko and Orient are separated even though they are the same and Seiko and Citizen are together and they are actually competitors. Lolz...

It's interesting because Orient were quite a popular brand in Australia in the 70's and early 80's at least up my way in Brisbane. I knew lots of people who wore them. I was only a kid so couldn't get to buy one until I bought my GF (now wife) a hand winding model in 1980. Interestingly, the watchmaker who sold it to me was a Seiko and Citizen AD and he said for VFM the orient was a better choice.

I stopped seeing Orients for sale here in the early 80's, definitely separate company allowed to run their own show.

Although Seiko may own Orient they are run as 2 quite separate entities.
This is my understanding, as well. From what I've read, although the Seiko parent company owns Orient, Seiko as a watch company maintains no creative control at all over Orient. Judging by how different Seiko and Orient watches look from one another, I'm guessing the companies really don't have too much interaction with one another.

If someone else is better-informed about this and knows otherwise, I'd certainly love to know.

Orient is in a different group. More information here: Seiko Group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Basically Orient does their own thing, however since the acquisition by S-E Orient has made some big changes (most notable being no more homages).

As for the 46943 vs 7s26: they're different movements.

You'd be surprised...I opened the back of a Casio solar watch to find an Seiko/Epson movement inside.
