Review: Casio G-Shock Riseman Wristwatch ...
After buying the Timex WS4 a couple weeks ago I realized that a had the quartz gadget bug again. It's been a long time, since maybe 1987. ;-)

Here are the basic differences between the G-Shock Riseman and the Timex WS4. The
Riseman gives up the compass and have a smaller display. But it also adds radio-control and solar power! The official spec list is lengthy, so I'll leave it at the end of the post. This a lot of fun for
around $140 shipped. And again, the best price I found was from
Amazon, w/ free shipping.

In addition to the usual stopwatch and multiple alarms and countdown timers, you also get the famous G-Shock 200m WR, toughness, and reliability, perfect for a beater or travel watch. An no, no one will confuse this with a Blancpain Grand Complication, so let's get that discussion out of the way early. ;-)

The altimeter is fun, though I wouldn't count on it's accuracy if I was pulling a chute while skydiving. And like the WS4, you can record/chart your the changes in altitude and air pressure over time.

The presentation case is kind of gimmicky and fun.

The watch case is not too big at all, VERY wearable on average wrists. Comfortable and light. The strap is also nice, two rows of holes and prongs.

The main sensor is at the 9 o'clock position.

The 3 o'clock position is where the large red (and slightly recessed) altimeter button is.

The caseback has the familiar dragon. I think the Japanese market version has a flying squirrel instead. I have no idea what the story is behind that.

This is a fun toy/beater watch and I don't see myself getting tired of it anytime soon. Recommended!

Nice review. You got a great price I think.

I'm not familiar with the Timex WS4 but now you've made me want to check it out.
