1914 IWC 64Cal, Borgel cased. Serviced and with a 'new' strap.
Evening all.
Following the original thread 'here', this is a quick update on where my bargain buy IWC is currently at.... including the arrival of a A+ strap - more on that below.
As well as a good clean of the dial to remove the hairlines, the movement and been serviced and running to great time.

Also, through some discussion with the IWC museum curator, I have got some additional information:
I checked the numbers and I have to say: matching numbers!
The watch with movement 591241 and the case 658541 was sold September 21 1914 to Stauffer London.
Most interesting for you: in the sales records there is the note: "contours Borgel avec anses" That means it was a typical Borgel silver wristwatch case.
Now to the strap... Thanks again to David Boettcher (My Period Replica Buckles) for another wonderful strap. This being a little bit special. David has just started offering his own (made and assayed) solid silver buckles for that authentic WW1 look and feel - fully hallmarked and carrying David's own DBB makers mark. I am lucky enough to have got one from his first batch, which really works well with the watch... which I have waited for before doing the thread.

You can read information on the buckle and the process of 'hand bent' prototypes to later designing a machine to do the bending, in the link above. Its people like David and his attention to detail that makes watch collecting for me, as interesting and enjoyable as it is. So thanks again David for supplying the all important finishing touch to my Trench/Borgel Collection....
This watch is certainly another highlight in my ever growing collection.
