After a good bit of cleaning and renewing the black paint in the numerals:
You might have been "touching up" tarnish, as these bezels are silver over rolled gold, unless whoever owned it before you painted it.

None of the ones I've seen or owned ever had "black paint" inside the numerals, just schumtz until I got the case cleaned and polished.

They are nice watches none the less and are conversation starters especially when you have the "His & Hers" versions sitting side by side, and if you really want to blow their minds, hunt down the "Air King" versions of the same watch (black dials).:-!

Oh, I thought the numerals were white gold.

In any case, I found it a bit hard to read the numerals when the whole things were shiny.
