I have recently acquired a junked clock that is a Westclox Big Ben with a wind up alarm. I have tried to fix it but it seems to work only sometimes. The clicker thing inside won’t keep on moving and stops a lot, everything else works perfectly except that a slider is missing, but that’s fine since it’s an easy mecanism to get a different switch for, pictures of it are below
Nice to see a 1970's Westclox alarm that's made in USA. If it's stopping and starting chances are not enough mainspring power is going up the gear train to the balance wheel. Dried oil and dust probably the cause. A tiny bit of light machine oil on the two balance wheel pivots might loosen things up. Same for a few teeth of of the escape wheel if it is accessible. And if you can reach the mainspring a bit of motor oil on the coils will help them slide against one another.
