To the admins, sorry if I'm not doing this correctly. I'm just interested in this ebay item, and just wanted to get some informed opinions on the authenticity of this watch. I don't mind if its been doctored/frankensteined a little since I'm not a purist and just like the look of this watch, but I didn't want to buy a total fake either. Here is the listing:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stunning-v...66-0117-cal-1020-automatic-watch/153911239486

Thanks for any help!

This watch started life as a Geneve. Upon being redialed, the watch was "rebranded" as a Seamaster to try to bump up the value. The redial is no "starburst" but is a plain gray dial with a non-authentic redial.

Not a bad looking watch, but it has no collector's value and Omega aficionados will wrinkle their nose at this. The seller's other items are similar - iffy redials and questionable "servicing".

Here is was a dark dial original should look like https://omegaforums.net/threads/vintage-omega-geneve-day-date-ref-166-0117-stardust-dial.58781/

If you don't mind the frankenwatch aspect, it'll have good wrist presence, if you're looking for a smaller watch. The caseback looks a bit overpolished, but it looks good overall; the work on it all looks nicely done.

The auction's currently at $485, and that's about the point where you'd have little chance of breaking even if you sold it later. If it goes much higher, you'd have to really love it for what it is to want to bid on it.

Personally, I'd look for an original Geneve with the sunburst dial, but that's just me.
