Hi guys,

I'm new here, hello from France.
Just found my dad's 1987 DW 5700 G-Shock ! He used to dive with it.
- no watch strap
- bezel destroyed
- module 691 working with new battery, but the buttons are hard to push

After deep Google researches, I decided not to replace parts with genuine Casio parts, too rare and... too expensive for my student's budget !

I kindly need your help to use it again as a sport watch (running, biking, swimming), but I would need some specialists inputs :
- bezel : apparently I could replace it by a DW-5600 C bezel, but same it's tricky to find cheap ones
Do you have any other option in mind ?
- watch strap : it seems easy to find some from China, but open to any suggestion
- buttons : I will change the case gasket, but I'm afraid regarding the waterproof gasket of the buttons, since they are really hard to push
Any idea on this side ?

Many thanks for your help !

Hi, Tim...

So first order of note if you want this baby looking like it did with original bezel and band go here...https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/233355954052 it may be pricey about 160USD but it's totally worth it as there are no other sellers I'm aware of that sells the original I actually restored two of my originals by buying this set from the seller.

About your button dilemma...if you go to pacparts.com look up DW5600E or DW5700E...now depending how bad your gaskets and buttons (note: the caseback gasket for the modern ones doesn't fit the case back of your model...you'll be able to order 5600c or 5700c case gaskets from them I believe if not check eBay) the original are you should be able to order and use the buttons and gaskets from these models...keep on mind that if you want to keep your original buttons make sure the stems are straight or that you're able to straighten them.... if you choose your original buttons just swap the gaskets and the metal rings in the same order that it was it was taken out onto your buttons. Now what I've done to mine is I replaced all but the adjust button because the adjust button is actually smaller than its modern counterparts. Oh and one more thing buy about 8 clips...the part that holds the buttons in place you're going to lose some of these they bounce and they fly anywhere you need a pair of good tweezers to install and remove them.

Get a small bottle of silicone oil and dip all the gaskets in it prior to installing if done right you will maintain it's water resistance...I've never seen my restoration show any sign of a faulty water resistance.

If you need further guidance in any of the above steps. I'm always checking the forum to provide advice and others as well.

Glad to see this thread get a reply, where mine three days ago did not:

Was going to add this to my thread, but will add here instead.

George,

The bezel you show looks exactly like the ones I have seen elsewhere for example, to include the proper position of the light marking:

If so, have you actually tried these bezels on a 1987/1988 vintage DW-5700 for exact fitment? I too noted in my post how the adjust button is smaller on my circa 1988 DW-5700, and it seems the hole in this new bezel for this adj button is larger... So I'm guessing this is simply cosmetic, and does not cause any function issues? I like the bezel from the DW-5735D the best, but not sure about fitment, and the markings are not correct for a vintage DW-5700... But if it would fit perfectly, I could surely made due.

Also saw this strap that seems to be the exact one proper for a vintage DW-5700 (I still use my orig, and it seems exact), to include the proper buckle tone and raised rectangles around adjustment holes:

Buying these two, even with pricey shipping from the UK would save a TON of $, and if fully compatible even closer to the vintage DW-5700.

Thanks.

So the bezel you linked will not fit the dw5700c the one I linked is for the original 5700c model... so I haven't tried it with the 5700 the bezel you showed me but understand that from experience ...a dw5600e bezel will not work on the dw5600c...conversely the dw5700c case is the same dimension as the 5600c and so an original 5600c bezel will fit it perfectly...but not a modern 5700 bezel...
