This thread is ONLY for comments that pertain to the Special Edition Project but don't fit into any of the other existing threads in this sub-forum.

Please don't quote parts of my posts out of context.

Maybe we need to vote on the choice of movement too. I appreciate that it mat take ca 3 hours for a full CLA of the movement in addition to the $20 or so value of these movements. That puts it in the same price range (I think) of a nicely decorated ETA 2824-2, a Valjoux 7750, ......
Rereading some of the comments above, after all is said and done, what is so special about this movement? It's good for bragging rights (40 y.o movement in my watch), but other than that .....

Again, don't get me wrong - I'm playing devil's advocate here. Interested to hear other & more opinions and views.

We don't have a choice on the movement. This has been stated a number of times.
When will the poll be up?Also, any news on the price? Is it firm?
THEME vote will start tonight (EST). I've been extremely busy with work, so I haven't been in contact with Laco, however, I'll take care of that as well tonight.
Alrite... been waiting to vote since last week...
Good progress so far.
THEME vote will start tonight (EST).
Thank you very much for all the hard-work. There are so many wonderful choices!

On option #2, does it include variations for both type A and type B dials? I only see the photo for type A dial.

Yes, both dials. I didn't think to add both dials; just as with the photos of all the other watches, they are only representations of the theme, not an absolute range of choices.

Just heard back from Laco: Yes, the price is firm.
2200 USD....

This better be a stunner!

I guess it will be up to us to make it one...
I am out then. Way too much, for me at least.

€1,499 = $2,218  ouch - that's exactly what I paid 3 months ago for my (new) Omega Railmaster from an AD. Next steps for me: hard thinking and consultation with the household CFO.

The voting-thread is not meant for discussions, so I will post the results so far here. As of 5 minutes ago, only 22 people have cast their votes:

Uwe, I am not creative in the sense that I can draw dials and stuff, but I do know my way around in Excel. I've made a little x-sheet that only requires you to enter the numbers and the scoring is done automatically. I can save you the trouble of having to create something alike yourself. PM your e-address and I will send you the sheet. I can also wait till voting is closed and send you the final results.

Ron, thanks for the offer, however, I already have a spreadsheet designed for calculating STV results. And better than that, my partner in crime CzechMate, is an expert at using it.
Re: 2011 Laco Special Edition Project - PROJECT THEME - VOTE

I'm a bit confused by the numbers, but I want:

Black dial with white markings

"B" pilot style with minutes on the outer ring and hours on the inner ring, exactly as illustrated on the left side of the banner below uwe's postings.

EDIT: Moved this post from the voting thread (Uwe)

May I direct you to www.laco.de

You might find a very similar watch there.
Re: Torpedo Theme

Hello Uwe,

considering the changes with LACO within the last two years, I would prefer to pay a deposit to a "Trust Account", not to a LACO account directly.
Could you please ventilate this point with LACO?

Many thanks for all your work,

Volker ;-)
1500 EUROS?!!??! LACO must be out of their mind. I'm out
Well, this has turned into an interesting situation.

In Laco's defense, the cost of completely overhauling each movement is an expense that would not have been incurred had an off-the-shelf ETA movement been used for this project. And therein lies the irony; the decision to use a Durowe movement in order to make this project more special has become its greatest stumbling block. Laco has also mentioned the cost of dial and hand manufacturing has risen since the last WUS project watch was completed.

Regardless, everyone will have to make up their own mind as to whether or not the projected cost represents a good value for a limited edition custom designed watch. I'm sure that many here have spent a lot more for a watch that was produced in the the thousands and could be purchased through any number of retail locations. I know I have. Yet, in retrospect there was nothing really unique about them. Even if I wasn't managing this project I would be inclined to stay the course rather than risk missing out on what has the potential to become a very interesting watch.

Hi Volker, we'll have to see what can be done about that. Personally I don't see the need for this type of caution; it's been quite a while now since the deal with Kienzle fell through and Laco have been nothing but stable since then. When I purchased my 55 mm they had my full payment for quite a while as it was a pre-order situation (similar to this project) and everything went through without a hitch. However, if this is something that concerns you, I'm sure there's a way to work out something that makes you more comfortable. Wouldn't a deposit paid by your credit card, for example, have buyer's insurance included with it?
Re: Torpedo Theme

I think you are right, Uwe, about the added cost due to the movement.
I wonder, would Laco be happy to install an ETA instead, and lower the cost to under 1000 Euro?

They can always put it in a LE of their own making!
