If the late 50s to end of the 60s was a period of great development and growth, and the 80s that of decline, what were the 70s? Each era has iconic pieces to collect, and while I'm familiar with those of the 50s/60s and 80s, what would be considered the iconic watches of the 70s?

A good place to start getting an idea of the 1970s in terms of watches is to look at the catalogues from that decade. The 1960s was mostly what we would call dress watches with white, cream and champagne colour dials and round cases. The 70s introduced more colour, square and oblong cases, heavy batons instead of numbers. Thicker, chunky hands and cases etc. Also, it was the start of digital watches.
