Recently arrived Daytona and Newman. ordered them from Alpha USA during their chrono sale a few weekends ago. Great watches, look great, running great.
You'll notice I replaced both bracelets. The bracelets Alpha uses on the Daytona/Newman models are pretty crappy. The chrono bracelets have good solid links with screws like the Alpha Sub bracelet, but cheap tinny single locking clasps and really cheap and flimsy looking hollow end links. The "semi-solid" end links and double locking clasp on the Alpha Sub bracelets are much better.
As you can see, I replaced the Newman's bracelet with that from an Alpha Sub. It was a tight fit, but once in place I think the look goes well with the case.

A few more shots of the Newman

I had a hard time deciding which bezel to get on the Newman. :-s
I kept going back and fort: black-- silver-- black-- silver.... o|
But since I knew I wanted the black bezel on the Daytona, I went with silver on the Newman.
It looks as if Paul would approve! ;-)

The watch on his wrist has T-shaped chrono buttons, not screwed buttons.

The original Rolex Chronographs (shown on Mr. Newman's wrist) had regular WR pushers, at some point Rolex felt the need to put screw down locking collars on the pushers (ie screw down pushers) of the "Paul Newman."

The Alpha reflects the current design of the Rolex.

(Personally, I hate screw down collars on pushers, they really don't improve water resistance, and just hinder operation of the chronograph functions. Does Alpha actually use screw down locking collars on the pushers, or are they just for style?)

The screw down collars on these are functional. I don't think screw collars add to the water resistance on chronographs, but rather they keep the pusher from being inadvertently pressed which could compromise the water resistance of the watch. As such they act like the safety on a firearm-- it doesn't improve the function of the gun, but rather prevents you from inadvertently shooting yourself in the foot.
If screw down collars bother you then why not just leave them unscrewed all the time? It changes the look of the watch slightly, but perhaps in a good way, as the pushers appear thicker and more prominent.

There, fixed it for you.

(And, I also prefer double action revolvers... no safety... No holes in my feet, either :-!)

Good lookin' pieces. The Alpha PN is on my list. (It's not a long list, but the watches in front of the PN are relatively pricey and fundage accumulation is taking a while.)
