between 1864 and 1930.
FRAINIER: native of Porrentruy (Switzerland), where he made some boxes of watches in 1864. He created a very personal kind. He hit the balance wheel. All these punches are engraved by hand.
History: The period stretching from 1890 to 1914 is a prosperous period for the watchmaking industry; two distinct trends characterize the watch production of that time: while the crocketed, serious, or painted and translucent enamels with watchcases highlight the compositions of Art nouveau, the quality of the manufacture of movements reached a kind of climax which ends with the appearance of the wristwatch.
A workshop for the production of watch cases, that of the factory Frainier & son, established in Morteau from 1864 is kept in the Musée d'horlogerie in this city. The workshop is equipped with a machine to guilloching and collection of Fund boxes accompanying illustrates the work at the time of Art nouveau.
