Have owned these 2 late 1990s IWCs for a while now, and even though I like them both, every now and then, my desire to avoid redundancies in my collection makes me doubt if I should keep them both. While seemingly very similar, they do have a pretty different feel on the wrist. One more classic flieger, the other - more modern yet strictly functional. One with the added true GMT functionality, the other super-clean-looking and significantly thinner and more comfortable on the wrist. Even the blackness of the dials are of different shade. So the question to fellow WISes is what would you do if you had them both:
1. Kept the Mark XV and sold the UTC;
2. Kept the UTC and sold the Mark XV;
3. Kept both (but keep in mind that I would rather sell at least one of them).

Appreciate your feedback and a happy Friday to all!

I like the added functionality ("true" GMT where you advance the local time) of the UTC, if I had to keep one that would be it.

I've owned both the UTC and a few different Marks--you can't go wrong with either, but if I had a Mark, I would have a different one that that, and as noted, the UTC offers a bit more, while being a bit less "common"--I would keep the UTC.

The UTC is scarcer and more useful. If you insist on moving one (and I get that), move the Mark.
Personally, as an IWC fan, I’d prefer to keep both.

As far as Marks go, this is my favourite by far - I don't think any of the consecutive Marks quite have the "Mark", if you know what I mean. I think it's the last true to the form Mark that IWC has made, including the homages. But I can say the same about the UTC - it's the last flieger they made that was true to the form, plus the added GMT functionality...

Actually, Mark XV is scarcer than the UTC. Just case in point :)
Wow, I guess personal perception replaced fact! Maybe I'm lumping all the Marks together because they all look the same to me when seen individually (I know they're not the same). Was that UTC model's design repeated over different reference numbers too?

It’s a hard decision. If it were me, I’d lean towards keeping the Mark. The simpler dial and the thinner font on the numerals give it a much cleaner look and appeals more to me. Add in the fact that it is more comfortable for you to wear, that would be the one to keep.

Both are grail-ish watches, and seeing only face-on shots, knowing nothing about how they wear, the UTC would get the nod. Seeing thick comp photo and hearing about the thicknesses and how they wear, the Mark would get the nod.
